This was one of the most anticipated days of our trip for me, not so much for Nicole. I had been looking forward to riding the new Shinkansen train, the Hayabusa, up to Hokkaido. While we were both very excited to visit Hokkaido for the first time, Nicole was not looking forward to the long train trip. I love the trains in Japan so this was a real treat for me. It was 8 and a half hours of train travel up to Sapporo and it was because of these long trips that we had decided to get the green car JR rail pass.
The first leg of the trip took us up to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station where we had to transfer off the Hayabusa on to the Super Hokuto which took us the rest of the way to Sapporo.
We stayed at the hotel in Sapporo Station which made getting to the hotel very quick and painless, which was great because after such a long trip, and still battling jet lag, we were both pretty out of it.
A little freshening up in the hotel room and then we found a conveyor belt sushi restaurant in the vast Sapporo Station.
