In search of new things to do in Tokyo, I spent the day with my Japanese buddy Yuta. He acted as my local tour guide as we explored a less-touristy side of Tokyo.

Things to do in Tokyo (from this video):

Tokyo’s Koreatown – In the Shin Okubo neighborhood of Tokyo is Koreatown – A great place for markets, restaurants, street food, and perhaps most popular attraction the pretty faces of Korean Pop World.

Record shops of West Shinjuku – The West Side of Shinjuku is a music lovers paradise, home to many recording studios and record shops, its a great place for locals to discover new music and enjoy the classics.

Eat Udon – Udon is a thick, wheat flour noodle served al dente in a broth based of soy sauce, rice wine and dashi (like a fish stock).

Kagurazaka – Kagurasaka is a quiet traditional Japanese neighborhood left off most tourist maps. home to beautiful maze-like side streets and an interesting french influence.

  1. Gareth, You ate Natto for the first time. You are so brave. I love udon but I have never eaten natto udon. You did not like the Mitarashi Dango, did you? Dango is my favorite. The milk shake looks so good.

  2. Kagurazaka!! I actually used to live there! 懐かしいな~ it's not a very touristy area even though it's really beautiful so I was kinda really happy to see you explore it ^-^

  3. Omg! Why didn't I watch this before going to Japan?! I literally just came back to the states yesterday. And one of the places I stayed at was in Shinjiku and I even told my husband we should go to Korean town but I didn't know where it was. Ugh.

  4. New place…eat…another place….eat…eat…eat…eat. DANG. 😂😂😂😂😂😂

  5. eww why did you take a bite right next to his bite? is that your boyfriend or something? gross.

  6. The last time I was in Tokyo, I stayed at a hotel in Shin Okubo ( Koreatown). It was a nice area especially at night. There was a cool evening vibe and the food was good. Thank you Gareth for this video. It brought back happy memories of my stay in that area. I hope I can come back next year.

  7. Natto! Gareth, you are way too polite. hahahha
But, I like they way you make everything seem so delicious.
    I am loving your videos.

  8. Nice, been there twice and still love to come back. Ist time Shinjuku, Asakusa and around some temple. 2nd time Yokosuka, Kyoto, Mt Fuji, Lake Ashi, Kyoto and Osaka. Love the culture, the people and country.

  9. I think most tourist got lost in Shinjuku station…. We too got lost and can't find our way out first time went there

  10. …..Japan is totally virgin to American C/W genre'…..haha !!!….once it hits…there is no looking back…..trust me….the 3 best- looking girls in the world arguably……married C/W singers…..Did you catch that ???….It's magical….C/W music is the best in the world….

  11. Haha, i totally gotta watch that Shinjuku Station video next. My friend and i once got completely lost in that station, too. It's crazy. But the underground area around Osaka Station is almost as confusing 😀

  12. I used to hate natto, but after trying it several times (adding a little sugar and salt on it), now i love it. I eat it plain or with the spicy mustard and sweet soy sauce that comes in the frozen packages of it. I honestly eat it daily and sometimes with udon. It's an acquired taste for sure, but definitely one a person can become acclimated to and come to love!
