The Echigo Line runs from Niigata to Kashiwazaki, about 80 kilometers away. At both ends, there is a connection with the Shinetsu Line. Despite running fairly close to the Sea of Japan, there is no view of the coast at any point. To be honest, there is nothing exceptional about the scenery but the line does give a typical view of the Japan countryside with endless rice fields.
