MAY 13 – MAY 15 2017 |
Spent a short trip with my family in Hokkaido’s third largest city of Hakodate. Located at the southern tip of the island, Hakodate is about 4h away by car from Sapporo. The city is famous for its port as it is one of the the first harbor cities to be opened to foreign trade after Japan’s era of isolation.
We also drove about 2h to Matsumae, which is the northernmost castle town in Japan. If you have the chance to visit this place in spring (end of April – May), I highly recommend it to all the cherry blossom lovers, as it is filled with 10’000 cherry trees of 250 different varieties!
