Japan Travel: Fun in the Snow at Furano Ski Area, Hokkaido 05

Furano Ski Area in Hokkaido is fun resort for the whole family. Versatile Furano is popular in the summer months for its floral beauty which transforms into a magnificent piece of snow artwork in the winter for all to enjoy. The Furano Ski Area is a popular resort as there are various runs as well as other family oriented snow activities (like snow rafting, etc).

The ski area features long fast runs which have been used in the World Cup races. Of course, the resort has a number of wider, gentler slopes for beginners. However for advanced or adventurous skiers/snowboarders, terrain parks, downhill courses and a World Cup sized half pipe are available.

For non skiers/snowboarders, Furano Ski Area has a Family Snowland area. Visitors here can experience snow rafting, snowmobiling, parasailing and dog sledding.

Accommodations include the two large Prince Hotels located at the base of the ski resort. Guests may use the rear entrances which lead directly to the slopes. In addition to the hotels, visitors may opt to stay in one of the many “pensions” or boarding houses located near the resort. “Pensions” are family run lodging. Most have Western style rooms (resembling a Bed & Breakfast).

The Ski/Snowboard Season is usually from late November to early May.
