京都大原にある寂光院に行ってまいりました。
こじんまりとした寺院に趣のある参道…若干紅葉は早かったのですが、素晴らしいお寺でした。
It is not clear how Jakkoin was founded. According to temple tradition, the temple was founded in 594 by Prince Shotoku in the second year of the reign of Emperor Suiko (594) as a memorial to his father, Emperor Yomei. The original name of the temple was Gyokusenji, and Princess Tamateru (Kezenni), who was the Daishi’s nanny, is said to have been the first abbess. However, some local historiography from the Edo period suggests that the temple was founded by Kukai (Miyako Meisho Zue), while others suggest that it was founded by Ryoninobu, the founder of the Yutsu Nembutsu school of Buddhism, who lived in retreat in Ohara at the end of the 11th century and perfected the Ohara statement (Kyo Habutae). Today, Jakkoin Temple is better known for its association with the retreat of Kenreimonin in the Tale of the Heike than for the legend of its founding.
