First, our hosts visited Sasaki Farm, located in Kokonoe, Kusu District, Oita Prefecture, which has specialized in cultivating pears for around 66 years.

As the farm sits on highlands of between 1,377ft-1,827ft (420m-560m) above sea level, the temperature difference between day and night is stark, which, combined with the fresh water that springs from the mountain and high-quality soil, has allowed them to grow incredibly sweet and juicy pears.
*Pears are usually in season between late August and late September, but varieties differ depending on the time of year, so please check the website down below or inquire directly for the latest information.

Our two hosts were able to fully experience the fun of harvesting pears at Sasaki Farm encompassed by the grand panoramic views of the Kusu Basin and more.
They thoroughly enjoyed the satisfying crisp texture and juicy-sweet flavor of the pears!

Next, they headed to Kuju Flower Park, located in the Kuju Kogen Plateau in Aso-Kuju National Park.

With the backdrop of the towering Kuju Mountains and five peaks of Aso, both ranked amongst the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains, the roughly 2,368,060 ft² (220,000m²) grounds boast around 5 million flowers of 500 varieties blooming in dazzling colors from spring to autumn. Changing with the seasons, you’ll be able to fully appreciate the diverse beauty of nature!

BBQ sets and glamping facilities are available at the camping resort “Hanatohoshi,” allowing casual camping experiences without having to bring your own tent and other camping gear.
Here you can unwind and spend a comfortable night outdoors in the spacious park surrounded by gorgeous flowers under the starry sky.
