Mt. Aso is the largest active volcano in Japan and I want to hike it!
Located in the middle of Kyushu, it’s one of those things I wanted to see since I first found out I was moving here. Unfortunately, Aso is a little unpredictable. It will close suddenly if deemed unsafe – volcano problems.
The area right by the crater was closed the day I went there. It really sucked because it had JUST opened again after the eruption in late 2016. Oh well. I’ll try again some other time. The perks of living close by.
Much love and happy travels
