栃木県日光市の西側の「いろは坂」をのぼった先に広がるのが標高約600m以上の奥日光エリア。湯ノ湖や栃木県最大の湖である「中禅寺湖」、「西ノ湖」と個性的な湖や滝が点在し、さらに「戦場ヶ原」や「小田代原」では、草紅葉やミズナラの黄葉など、多彩な色合いが広がる。中でも「中禅寺湖」の湖畔にはカエデ、ウルシ、ブナなどが茂り、「八丁出島」周辺では、カエデやブナが色鮮やかな赤や黄色に染まり、湖から見える紅葉も美しい。「湯ノ湖」から東へと１〜２週間づらして、紅葉が麓へと移動して「いろは坂」へと移動していく。

The Okunikko area around Lake Chuzenji, in particular, are known for beautiful autumn leaves.
The best time to see beautiful autumn colors there is from mid October to late October.
Every year, many people from around the Japan arrive in Nikko to see the unparalleled beauty of the region’s autumn leaves.

確かに此処の紅葉はきれい。丁度真っ盛りの頃にいろは坂を登って、中禅寺湖の廻りを散策しました。
霧降高原や湯西川とか川治にモミジラインも良いです。
