What foreigners are arriving in Japan? I waited and watched at the international arrival area at KIX Airport in Osaka for three hours to see just who was arriving in Japan. I was also checking if there were any foreign group package tourists that the Japanese government approved from June 10. Surprisingly, there was much more activity at KIX than I expected. Also, there were more than double the number of arrival flights since I was at KIX over a month ago. So foreign passengers were arriving, but they were not foreign group package tourists nor were they individual tourists or independent foreign travelers. The majority were groups that were coming to Japan for training in a specific field of work, technical interns, athletes that were coming to take part in a competition, study abroad students, or relatives of residents of Japan. So there was arrival activity at the international arrival area but no one entering Japan on a tourist visa. Everything still seems to be on hold, wait and see. Especially watch after July 10 when the Upper House election takes place.

  1. I hope Japan start opening up to foreign tourists soon, they seem to not want to accept that Covid is just a thing that will be here forever. I read an article this morning saying that they're even thinking about delaying the domestic tourist GoTo Travel campaign because of the cases rising again, but that is going to happen forever from now. Covid cases will rise and fall, rise and fall and will just constantly happen, foreign tourists or not

  2. I visited my family in law and for other reason in June.
I obtained a temporarily Visa because my wife is Japanese. (90 days visa)
    The process: easy
    Documents :
    – Survey: guarantee, travel plan, reason
    – Passport
    – Flight ticket
    – copy of the 戸籍謄本 (koseki tohon). This document must be delivered less than 3 months
Time to obtain the visa : 6 days

After that , before the flight :
    PCR test
    Complete MySOS

    In the Narita airport :
    Really smooth.
From the first step outside the airplane to the exit —> ~ 50 min to 60 min

Honestly, I really appreciated the quality of the service and the entire staffs have been nice.

  3. No one wants to go to tokyo NORTH KOREA. ……Please reopen for individual tourist soon. We miss you japan. 😔

  4. I think there will also be a lot of temporary visas issued for people going to finally meet for the first time their grandchildren born during the pandemic

  5. I will go to Japan as soon as it open normally like before the pandemic. I'm a big fan of onsen ❤️

  6. thank you for update ! I bought jal tickets for tokyo/okinawa😊
I hope nothing else happen after election 😅 stay safe !

  7. Thank you for the update. I am able to travel on a spouse visa but I really look forward to normal travel rather than this N. Korea nonsense.

  8. What really burns me is that Japanese are allowed to travel overseas but they still do not want foreigners to come into Japan when they can test just the same as Japanese citizens and others that have business visa, students. From a scientific perspective just doesn’t make any sense.

  9. I know someone who organizes group tours to Japan (or rather, his job for the last 2 years has been "canceling group tours to Japan") and he told me that they would need a partner agency in Japan to vouch for them, which is a huge hassle and only really feasible for the very large, soulless bus-tour organizers. I think we may need a fleet of black ships again to motivate the Japanese government to open up… if the country stays closed off to tourist much longer, I think I may need to urgently go and see how our company's distribution partner in Japan is doing after all.

  10. has anyone gone on a tour? cuz I see that a lot of tour packages have "free days" where you can participate in what the guides have planned or go off on your own

  11. Thank you for being so transparent with us! I really appreciate your updates! Trying to go in October for my birthday/2 year anniversary

  12. Still troublesome to enter for now. Even JTB the biggest tour company still quiet about any package tour to Japan. I don't even know the companies that eligible to provide tour packages other than JTB here in Malaysia. I'll just wait till individual travel back to normal in Japan. I subscribed for updates. Thanks

  13. Hello. Is there any way to contact you directly, Im going to japan next month just for transit but seems like I have some issues/questions you might be able to help me about! Thank you in advance !

  14. Arrived at KIX last week. Have PR. Fast track app completed with blue screen. Great! Get off plane and monorail and show blue screen and get a pink lanyard!? Numbered booths at bottom of escalator and asked which country I had been to. Why are they asking? It is on my previously reviewed Fast Track app. Get given a blue piece of paper with country visited on it. Walk through some corridors designed for long queues and then another booth where I show my passport to a helper and the QR code on the Fast Track app is scanned. Asked again which country I visited. Why are they asking? It is on my previously reviewed app. Walk back through more corridors and give my blue paper to another booth. Immigration process then as per usual and then used the cool electronic customs stand. Bag arrived and then through facial recognition customs gate. Efficient customs. All up 1 hour to exit with no other flights incoming. Fast Track app is great despite the preflight requirement for PCR test. But the use of those counters for double checking info previously reviewed before entry and still messing about with bits of paper is probably going to cause long delays when multiple flights start arriving at one time. I don’t suggest arriving in Japan without completing the Fast Track app and customs will be quicker if you complete the related app and use the e-stand.

  15. I just keep telling myself that by the time the country fully opens up, SURELY airfare will have come back down to reasonable levels….

  16. My parents were able to come in May and they stayed until the beginning of June.
Luckily they left right before 梅雨 started.
But they were only allowed in because they are related to my wife, because she took on my family's last name and she is a Japanese citizen.

  17. I wonder what the return (to Japan) rules are for foreigners with a Japanese permanent resident visa who spent some family time in Europe. Seems to be a nebulous affair. Keep up the good work, Thanks.

  18. So I got a job in Japan, and boy the hoops I have to jump through in order to get in are a pain

  19. I’m holding out hope that I’ll finally get to take my month long journey through Japan in November of this year but the lack of information has me thinking I’ll have to once again reschedule.

  20. It's a shame that Japan is the only country in the G7 that does not allow free travel for foreigners. It feels especially insulting given that Japanese travelers are able freely travel among other countries in the G7. I've seen a lot of reports of Japanese tourists traveling to the US to take trips to Hawaii or California and the disparity in treatment is particularly striking. I love Japan and would like to continue visiting every so often, but it feels discouraging when the government of that country clearly does not want foreigners while expects other countries to allow free travel for their nationals.

  21. Good stuff, Mike. I spent the last couple of hours watching your videos. So insightful! I’m actually currently in Japan at the moment visiting the in-laws…..and unfortunately got Covid yesterday. Noticed the spike in numbers in Tokyo recently and guessing it’s related to travelers coming in to visit family like we did. I went to the doctor but I’m sure there are a lot not included in the statistics.

  23. Been to KIX twice before the typhoon storm surge flooding and I will fly in again, whenever it is I can visit individually again.

  24. The pandemic has messed my whole relationship up. I not seen my girlfriend in 7 months because of this.

    Please open up Japan
