Kurume Kasuri is a type of Japanese fabric created using a resist dyeing process. Indigo-dyed strings are woven together to create intricate patterns in the fabric.
.
This Japanese traditional craft originates from the Chikugo region of Fukuoka, Kyushu. Only a few craftsmen in the area remain today, but they all continue to proudly produce these cultural treasures.
.
At Ikeda Kasuri Kobo, you can participate in a full-day experience to make Kurume Kasuri yourself. The standard process takes more than three months and involves over 30 steps, but in this experience, you can design, dye, and weave a coaster in just one day.
