We found it hard when booking our Alaska Cruise to decide between Ketchikan or Icy Strait Point and we decided to go with Icy Strait. We were so happy we picked Icy Strait over Ketchikan and we wanted to tell you why!

From the smaller more wilderness feel to the new infrastructure coupled with a really laid back vibe we really enjoyed our time at Icy Strait Point. We visited here aboard the Island Princess by Princess Cruise Lines this summer and we will definitely be back!

We hope you like our video about Icy Strait Point vs Ketchikan Alaska and we have provided some great information for you when booking your Alaska Cruise. Please don’t forget if you liked this video to like and subscribe and leave your comments below!

Thank You,

  1. hi im a local that homesteaded on a farm down the bay from Hoonah and just wanted to say thank you for the beautiful footage of my childhood home. I am studying music up at University of Alaska Fairbanks and seeing this brought me back to my youthful days of running through those woods and catching fish. thank you so much, God Bless

  2. Hi, I am a frequent visitor, on my own and I find something new on every visit. There are so many interesting sights and a chance to learn about native culture and art! Local carvers are happy to share stories, legends and explain meaning of their totem poles. Hoonah harbor is one of the best in SE. You can see whales from any place at the Point and sometimes even in town. They come to shore to scratch their backs on rocks to get rid of barnacles. People are friendly and easy to talk to. If you are not afraid to climb a few stairs, the town view from above is breathtaking. You can see deer walking in town, used to people. There is a store with fishing supplies and much more. A few places are in a process of remodeling, so come again to explore. Locals are very proud of their achievements and share their future plans gladly. The whole place is pure magic.

  3. The zip line was quite a thrill (it is the highest and longest), even for a 73 year old. I wish you would have taken it. By far the best outing of the entire cruise, and I have been on four Alaskan cruises.

  4. Hi-You gave us some nice picture of Icy Point. Thank you- I went there with Princess before and so I am just throwing out some things that you did not point out about Icy Strait Point. Two neat things there that I enjoyed were first the self guided tour through the old salmon factory there where I learned a lot about salmon and the canning of salmon . The second thing I enjoyed that was part of a tour on Icy Strait Point was a dance performance that was put on by the local people there. Ketchikan has some feature that Icy Strait Point does not have such as for example all the totem poles.

  5. Thanks very nicely done. I love seeing the scenery but these ports are not appealing l have visited before and the cruise was great.

  6. Thx for the summary but I’m not sold. NCL ditched Skagway for this port and I’m beyond disappointed. I don’t feel like doing a nature walk.. we booked our cruise (13 days to go) and even tried to cancel our trip.. but NCL will charge us $2,163 penalty fee. So we’re literally STUCK in this destination for THIRTEEN hours….. I’m not even excited about this trip anymore… sorry.. not to be a Debby Downer… but we saved all year for this and we’re so bummed. And BTW…NCL resolution desk staff are IDIOTS. We found out that Skagway was closed due to rockslides PRIOR to our booking the trip and there was no disclosure! They even booked our Skagway excursion!! Then just last week notified us that it was canceled. Talk about Bait and Switch!!! NCL doesn’t even have much in terms of excursions for ISP – do you know if we can book anything on ISP that’s not through the cruise line???? ANYTHING to make this more palatable…..🤦🏻‍♀️
