August in Japan is…. way too hot and humid. We all are sweating and melting right now! So what about going to a beach? On an island? In Miyagi Prefecture? And still easily accessible from Sendai?
Yes, there is one place like this! It’s called Katsurashima (桂島), which is part of the Urato Islands close to Shiogama City. Take a ferry from Marine Port Shiogama and enjoy the view of magnificent Matsushima Bay as well!
I had a great day on Katsurashima and I urge you to visit it. The beach is open until (2018) August 26th.
