Mike Harris runs both Canyons in Minakami ( https://canyons.jp/en/ ) and KODO Travel ( https://kodotravel.com/)
The route that we walked that day isn’t ready for tours just yet, but Mike is working with the Matagi group to develop a number of activities and hikes with the local Matagi that tourists will be able to experience in the near future. Of course this is all designed as sustainable adventure tourism that is meant to contribute to the preservation of local culture and wildlife. I’m also doing my best to assist with this project and may in the future be doing guiding in tandem with the local Matagi. We’ll see!

If anyone catches the Omar reference I'll be very happy.
Wow this is so beautiful, thank you so much for sharing this beautiful and interesting experience with us! 😊💖😁
That was quite an adventure! Thanks for the beautiful view of fall mountain.
Great fall colours and what an interesting plan for development! I also really like the Serow conversation 😁
This was quite the adventure! I love that phrase “bush-bashing” — and of course the conversation with the serow! You certainly don’t encounter that very often on YouTube! 😊
Danke!
Haha I love Quinlan's bird and bear calling 😀
Bears in the woods !
So interesting!
That whole conversation with the wildlife was awesome! High fives to all three intrepid travelers, and RIP Omar
Hi, GoNorth. The drone footage is much appreciated, still capturing beautiful Fall Foliage. 0:18
Thank you so much for this opportunity that I was given to make some quick research on "Matagi." It's a group of spiritual bear and deer hunters. They are not meant for recreational hunting but to sustain the population of bears and deer. Just like Native Americans hunt only to consume. Wow, it's like a JP kitchen sharp-edged knife. 0:57 So Mike is raising awareness of "Matagi" to the world. Do they guide PPL, as well?
OMG, three of you hike really fast. Hope the female hiker is able to catch up with you, two. Wow, I have no knowledge of it can make tea. Indeed, this is proof of bear presence.4:24 Speaking of moon bears. Recently, I had an unexpected visitor in my backyard. If you are interested, will you be kind to check and let me know whether it is a moon bear or not? ( Trick or Treat – Bear Visits Casa De Kayak7seas) at Kayak7seas. Definitely, he left his footprints on my driveway. Appreciate it. "Matagi" markings on the trees are mysterious to me as the original markings deform. OMG, there is overgrown vegetation everywhere. 7:04. Mike's "Matagi" strategy is appreciated. 9:52 Indeed, this waterfall has charm and is gorgeous, especially with fall colors.10:28. LOL, You speak their language, too?12:56 When I visited Seattle, I was told a story that wealthy siblings purchased one of the islands, and brought exotic animals including"Sgika" to this island. They had guests hunt them. The island is taken back though. Thank you very very much for bringing up the fascinating content.
The serow conversation 😅 So adorable. And it seriously does make you think what they were trying to talk about.
What an absolutely beautiful trip!
"This is only the second most beautiful waterfall in Japan."
*The serow has entered the chat.
"AhAaaaah!"
Translate: How dare you
WOW! This was one of the most interesting things I've ever seen. Thanks for bringing this to us Quinlan.
