In this video I head out on a different kind of “trail” and then drive an unbelievable road to a startlingly amazing viewpoint. But the thing is… Where is everyone??

  1. As always- great video. In 7mo I retire, so weekly I sit and watch your journeys, yellow legal pad, and topo maps scattered about, noting all the great spots you've been to. My plan is to live continuously off grid, pushed by the seasons. Summer in the north: WY, ID, MT, UT. Your WY trips have been inspiring. Thanks for all the knowledge you've been dispensing!! Stay safe!

  2. Love your videos! I chuckled when you said you prefer mountain climbing to "be in control!" I always find myself gasping when you are climbing! And you didn't need to tell me that you're "not a relaxer!" Ha! Always informative and entertaining! Thanks so much! ATB

  3. You are too cool. Seriously. You make exploring look so easy (it isn't) but oh so rewarding (it definitely is!) So THANK YOU for taking us all along with you. Great filming, editing, etc. Oh, and you always visit the most interesting and beautiful places. Once again, THANKS!

  4. What struck me about the kayaking part of the video was the total lack of wildlife: no birds, no fish, no beavers, etc. The silence you were enjoying was a little too quiet! That said, I'm still amazed by your videography skills; you're a one-man production team!

  5. Hi Tristan, I thought you recently bought and built out a 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser…. What happened to it? Did you address this in another video that I missed?

  6. I love your videos because you get out and do things and don’t just sit on your bed and spout advice and opinions, like some. The only thing I would add to what you do already would be cross country skiing. You live near some epic places to ski, and I know you do ski. I just think it would add to your channel. Thanks for asking.

  7. I am tempted to trade my hard resin kayak for an inflatable kayak. I want to lighten my load but still enjoy the water. Thanks!

  8. Thanks Tristan! Spent so much time working over 40 yrs, not enough time adventuring, but still have time to burn some gas and get out there! I encourage all who watch to get out here, when you can, as often as you can and while you can! Life goes by fast!:)

  9. We did that canoe float too, surprised you found it since it's so local & unspectacular :). The town of Seeley & Seeley Lake really shuts down off season, no camping or motels even. But a must see there is "Gus" the famous tamarack/larch tree in the local Girard Tamarack Grove. He's the world's oldest, 1000 yrs & largest, 163', even survived some forest fires. (They turn gold in Oct. & drop their needles)

  10. Hey Tristan, Do you have a favorite book about Lewis and Clark or the history of the American West? You mentioned one in a video from 2-3 years ago. I should've written it down, because I'm not sure which one of the older videos it was mentioned in. Thanks, great video, as usual 🙂

  11. When I was young, the Forest Service supplied these fire lookouts during the off-season with survival food, wood heat, and sleeping bags. It was a very comforting feeling knowing that the supplied lookouts were there in case of emergency. But, unfortunately, nowadays, they are locked up tight.

  12. Even though there is plenty of evidence of fires there, I think that mostly, the trees were first killed by that bark beetle that you hear so much about. Once the trees are dead, they are primed for fire, and there has been a lot of fire in the west the past few years. Sad situation.

Really interesting trip with the inflatable. Seeley Lake is often said to be the most beautiful place to go in Montana, and I would not argue with anyone who says so.

  13. I like that raft a lot, but you are not very tall and sitting there alone. It looks like you take up almost the entire space? It’s supposed to be for two people and 600 pounds maximum capacity.

  14. Dude you need to get out of there with the weather is going to get very bad for winter.. Warning this year’s winter is going to be very bad in Montana or anywhere up north. I hope that you listen and head south for the winter. If not please be careful make sure you have everything that you need to survive. This year is winter is going to be very rough all the way around in more ways than you’ll ever understand.

  15. More than anything, I want to see you do a more east coast trip, I really enjoyed you in Missouri and Michigan and Illinois and places you haven’t been before. It would be amazing to see you do one long eastern US trip, maybe bringing Cassie once she graduates or something

  16. You mentioned that if you’re scared of heights don’t drive the road. I disagree, we should do these things because they scare us!
    Great video my brother!!
