The “Nirayama Reverberatory Furnaces” is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Sites as one of the “Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution”.
These furnaces were built by Tokugawa Government in1857 to make iron cannon defending Japan from the western threat.
This iron making technology became the core technology of a rapid Industrial Revolution in Japan.
