Welcome to Osaka
Today we will visit one of the more Special Shrines in central Osaka the Namba Yasaka jinja.
The shrine is only a 5 minute walk from the shopping area namba parks and an 8 minute walk from the Namba nankai station.
This is the main entrance of the shrine directly facing one of the shrines of this small complex.
It is beautifully maintained and definetly worth a visit if you are in the area.
There are two lion statues after the entrance and behind on the left Is the massive Lion shaped stage,
which stands out as a unique piece of architecture, especially compared with the austere temple beside it.
It’s not hard to draw a parallel with Osaka’s kaleidoscopic mix of traditional, retro, modern and futuristic, distilled at this secret shrine in the center of the city’s bawdiest entertainment district.
The shrine is very green with many trees and a very piecceful place in this busy city.
And especially during the cherry blossom season, it is very beautiful!
There is a second Entrance facing directly to the Lion-shaped stage with a Shrine in the center.
There are no detailed documents describing the beginning of this shrine but the legends says it was known as an ancient shrine enshrining Gion Gozu Tenno since the time of Emperor Go-Sanjo’s Enkyu period in year (1069-1073)
It was originally a mixture of Shinto and Buddhism, but after the Meiji Restoration, the temple was abolished due to the separation of Shinto and Buddhism, and in 1872 it became a local shrine.
The current main shrine (the lion-shaped stage) was completed in May 1974.
