Today’s video is split into 2 parts, I’ll be showing you my new cycling commute backpack, and also updating you on my visa situation for my new job.

The founder of the company Craft Cadence, a cycling bag company based out of the UK, is a fan of this channel and sent me one of their waterproof cycling backpacks as a present. They did not ask me for a review or anything, but I just so happened to desperately need a new bag for my cycling commuting, which will be increasing to 200km a week, and I also really like the bag (and color), so I wanted to share it with you guys.

It also worked out perfectly because today I’ll be cycling to the Japan Immigration office in Nagoya, and I needed to carry some different documents with me, along with my laptop to get some work done while I’m waiting.

Since I am changing industries from teaching to the cycling industry, I need to change my visa status (在留資格変更). I’ll be changing from a professor visa (which is very limiting, but has an initial term of 5 years) to a humanities / engineer / international affairs visa, which allows me to do a lot of various jobs, including teaching, translation, marketing, etc..

I ended up needing one extra signature on one of my documents, so I had to ride back to my new company to get the signature, and then back to the immigration office, giving me a total of 100km for the day. Not a bad way to break in the new backpack. Also, it started raining on the way back home, so I was really glad this bag arrived this week.

So your normal commute is going to be around 12 miles or around 24 miles turnaround from home to your new job, eh? Be awesome if you could do a video on commuting long distance like that every day especially how it affects you mentally and physically because I too deal with that kind of situation for my work commute on a bike. My job starts at 7am and I normally take off somewhere around 6am for my 8-mile commute from home to work so I would normally have to sleep very early the night before and wake up very early the next morning. My commute takes me anywhere from 35 min if I'm sprinting the whole way or around 40-50 mins if I'm biking casually. On raining days or when my bike needs maintenance, I take two buses and do a little walk on foot but that would take over an hour.

BTW, how's that Planet-X bike holding up? I bought a London Road frame from them and it was a great budget aluminum frame for my bike build. I checked out their other bikes and they seem very nicely priced even for high-end groupsets with a carbon frame. What do you think of Planet-X bikes? Would you buy from them again?

I normally carry a drawstring backpack but I want to get a waterproof backpack like that too. 🙂

  2. Nice review of the bag. Good luck with the visa. I'd also like to see videos of your daily commute
    Nice video as always💪

  3. Good luck with the application. So you think the level and depths of beaurocracy is changing given Japan's labour situation? Sorry,I have no idea how long you have been there, but previously the hoops you had to jump through were painful.

  4. Awesome video again Cruise.. Wish you all the best on the new job. Keep up the good work 🙂

  5. are you a climber, or sprinter? Cruise-san
im a climber (beginner) realize it about 2 months ago

  6. good, now u r gonna be filthy rich and be able to buy more bikes 😉 Good luck with your new job!

  7. 3h ride with heavy backpack on. No thanks, no matter how comfortable it is. I always prefer to load the bike – with a pannier.

  8. Awesome video 👌we found your channel whilst doing some research for our upcoming tour in Japan. We are going to be in Japan from the end of May to mid-July. We will be arriving in Fukuoka after touring through S Korea. Do you have any recommendations of areas you would cycle through if you had 6 weeks? We will be finishing in Tokoyo to catch our next flight to Alaska.

  9. Good luck with your visa application !! I am glad you support enrichment of cycling culture in Japan.

  10. Hi there! Nice little film. Immigration can be such a depressing place – I don't know what the Nagoya branch is like but the old one in Tokyo was terrible. Luckily I moved out to the suburbs, close to a regional office which is fine. I'm now permanent but occasionally visit with new staff I'm hiring. I cycle-commute about the same distance extending or shortening a little depending on the day. Concerning waterproof bags, I have some great waterproof Ortlieb bags but they are panniers – a throw back from when I used panniers everyday. The backpack version never looked comfortable to me but I think the one you have would be great for rainy days – will try and find out more about them. BTW, I've just subscribed so am looking forward to more great films. Cheers.

  11. Hi, I’ve just seen your video about this yellow waterproof bag. I’ve been watching your videos since 2 weeks 🙂 so do you recommend this bag after 6 months ? Does it do its job? Thanks a lot!

  12. do you have any video that explains more on water proof? cus some things i buy seem to not be water proof? im just going to end up watching and liking all your vids lol i love that bag i do grocery shopping on my bike. i dont buy much. i do water and milk seperate.

  13. Your tires is 700×23 or 700×25 or 700×28, have you ever had trouble with rain when using Road bike.

  14. Hey @Two Wheel Cruise! 🙂 I'm thinking about this bag. Did you test this bag in heavy rain? I'm just curious. 😀
