Hoi An was the first city in Vietnam I visited 7 years ago. In the video Hoi An Travel Vlog 2022, I return to the ancient town spending a few days,(of the rainy season), admiring the many sites of the Unesco World Heritage “Old Town”. Obviously being protected as a Unesco site very little would have changed within the village area in that time other than perhaps some restaurant or shop changes. I did notice more shops with closed doors than I recall however despite visiting during the rainy season Hoi An seemed quite busy and the popular tourist restaurants that many foreigners like to visit were packed in the evenings.
This is easily the most popular place to visit in Central Vietnam. Within Vietnam it’s considered the country’s most competitive city for international tourism beating out Ho Chi Minh City and Hoi An. In 2021 it was the winner of Asia’s leading cultural city destination category at the 2021 World Travel Awards, beating out Beijing, Delhi, Kyoto, Seoul and it’s neighbor to the north, the ancient imperial capital of Hue.
As I mentioned in the video despite the crowds, it’s a wonderful experience almost anytime of year, even during the rainy season. There’s even a boat service for tourists that will take them through the town if it’s flooded.
I hope you enjoy this video. It’s always a privilege and pleasure to share these experiences with you, whether they inspire you to visit or simply give you joy just to watch and travel from your armchair.

Hi💗
Are you former work at channel 26?
Great video John! Making plans to start traveling again. You make Vietnam look so inviting.
Thanks for the great look at HOI AN. Beautiful photography.
Great video! One on the best Hoi An Vlogs I have ever watched on Youtube
👍👍❤❤❤❤👍👍
Beautiful
Hi John! I've been wondering how you are doing there, with the multiple windy/rainy storms that have come through. Great to see another video!
Great show John. Thank you.
This has so much great information. I'm looking forward to being there next February.
I love your video so much !
Thank you for showing this stunning place. Hoi An and Da Nang are two of my favorite cities in Vietnam.
Great voice, i love the way you make content, thanks so much for your love our country, wish you all the best and safe travel, love from Hanoi🤓
Still not sure if I should visit Hội An this year. Let's see if another John Saboe video changes my mind! Thanks for your great work, John! 🙌
Hoi An looks amazing thru' your lens. Thank you John. Sorry about your hat. Please stay well.
John, nice to view your vlog on Hoi An. I didn't know about the visitors pass when I was there Sept 22 and 23. Walked around the old market area one morning. It was wonderful. The folks were smiling and I heard a lot of hellos. Ate at a really nice restaurant one night for reasonable price. Had been in Da Nang previously for three nights. On the second day my girlfriend from Saigon was bored so we went back to Da Nang to catch a flight back to Saigon…we just missed the huge storm that rolled through later on the 24th.
anyway it was a great visit. I came back to California October 5th after 26 days there. I will return March 22 through April 10th (my usual trip time). Headed to Sanremo end of October for new 'retired' life. Your adventures and documentation has kept a lot of us in the loop these past few years of the situation. Many thanks. Hope to enjoy a Bahn Mi with you one of these days. Ciao for now from beautiful Napa, CA
Glad to see you traveling to Hoi An – beautiful presentation 👌
Thank you 🙏
Hello John, I've been watching your videos for a while and i really like them. Anyway, I think you don't have so much free time. My name is Valerio Faraglia (Italy), and I'm a video editor. If you are intrested in having somebody who edits your videos so you will have much more free time, tell me or check my mail in the information section of my channel.
If you just want to try, I can edit the first video for free to show what I can do. Also, there would be another advantage for your channel because since I live in Rome, I would edit during the night in USA, so you would have your video ready to be published in the morning.
Thank you.
Looks great John, can’t wait to visit, once we get settled in we will get there, your always welcome here with us also
Rather be knee deep in water than knee deep in something else! Great video John.
Very nice video, very professionally narrated. I know you can't predict the future, but do you think the Da Nang/Hoi An/Hue area will have fully recovered from the recent Typhoons around Xmas/NYE? I may be planning a trip there. Many thanks from a fellow Canadian!
could I know the first BGM?
Goodday John,
What a great video bought back so many memories when my partner Kellie & I were in Vietnam for a wedding in September 2019.
Staying in Da Nang we traveled everyday to Hoi An with the local bus the locals use.
It was so much fun watching 5bus conductor scooping up the school kids into the bus whilst the bus was still in motion at 1 kph, being the only Westerners on the bus the children would practice their English with Kellie because she is so eell versed in the English language.
Best Banh Mi in Vietnam was at
Hoi An at the bus terminal still remember to this day only
22,000 dong.
Best Vegetarian Restaurant was in
Hoi An this unbelievable restaurant even Kellie who is a vegetarian still talks about it to this day.
Even I was impressed & blown away.
In the back streets of Hoi An not in the tourist area got the business card somewhere but look forward to returning soon.
Had beautiful linen pants made, beautiful sandals that I still use today.
We got flooded out also when we stayed 2 nights but still swimming in the pool drinking local beer in the rain it was a magical feeling.
A few negatives, the sand was washed away from the local beach because they changed the course of a river for a golf course so sad to see.
The amount of rubbish in the waterway under the ancient Japanese bridge mostly plastic bags was sad to see considering the significant cultural value.
But overall fantastic memories, beautiful people, lots of beautiful buildings but do try the local bus between Da Nang & Hoi An worth the experience.
Great video as always.
Currently airfares between Australia & Vietnam are more than triple in value before the pandemic which hurts.
Stay safe
