Hi everyone, I hope you all enjoy the video!

Today I’m walking around Tokyo’s notorious Kabukicho district with my sister just to see whether it is dangerous or safe to visit!

  1. Very informative, wonder if more people would approach you if you had a a foreigner with you

  2. Hmm, if these “foreign catchers” are this much of a problem that the police are airing a public service announcement urging you not to trust them, perhaps they should be deported.

Why were they granted entry in the first place? They’re clearly not in Japan for a holiday or any legitimate business.

  3. I am coming to Tokyo in November and I booked an APA Hotel in Kabukicho. Not sure if I should keep my reservation or change it to another area. Any suggestions?

  5. When I was there in 2018 I was surprised that there were Brits working as catchers, far more aggressive than the locals.

  6. I felt a little nervous at the people who were just sitting on the side of the road waiting… and then they said “how are you?”. It felt strange to me I don’t know why!

  7. I've been to Kabukicho a few times now, it definitely feelt a bit safer in 2019 when I last went with the announcements, but then again it was pretty safe in the first place, the only hassle I experienced was from the Nigerian lads trying to get you into bars, however, they're friendly enough and if you're friendly but firm with saying no they'll leave you alone, if not just keep walking. The stories I've heard were folks who followed one of the pushers into a bar with the offer of free drinks, girls etc., there's a risk you may get your drink spiked and your credit card rinsed or just massively overcharged and threatened if you refuse to pay.

  10. Kabukicho is dangerous and beautiful place too, i would like to visit japan right now 😍

  11. The reason the catchers won't speak to girls, or Japanese people in general, is because when they find a tourist, or someone just from outside of Japan, you are essentially the same – outsiders. So you will maybe feel more comfortable talking to them in English, or another native language. Their comprehension of English may be higher than others, so they know all the little nuances and ways to try and convince someone to follow them.
Personally, when they have tried to speak to me in the past, I will just respond to them in Japanese, the same way others do to street marketers. Tell them I'm not interested, and walk way. If that doesn't work, I pretend not to know English, or any other language they speak.
