Hogon-in Temple is located in Arashiyama, Kyoto, about 30 minutes by train from Kyoto Station. It is the sub-temple of Tenryu-ji Temple and was founded in the Muromachi period (1461). Shishiku no Niwa, a circuit-style garden that incorporates Arashiyama as a borrowed landscape, is a cultural heritage representative of Hogon-in Temple. The garden was created in the Muromachi period. The temple is open to the public for a limited time, and is usually open to the public in spring and autumn. More than 200 maple trees are planted in the garden, making it one of Arashiyama’s best autumn foliage spots. The best time to see the autumn leaves is from late November to early December.
