In this episode we further dive into why I feel more comfortable in Japan.

  1. Watched on Twitter, rewatching now. And I’d rewatch anyway regardless of your request because I really enjoyed this video. Sometimes the places we call home or are attached to can be so far from conventional expectations. I live 5074km from the place o consider home, and I’ll never likely live there again. There is something special about the Japanese burbs.

  2. The warmth in which you describe what you are showing us made me think you were new to the area. Perhaps 1 year or so. but 14 years. Now that's love. I understand now.

  3. Your videos always have a certain calmness about them that I admire, Martin. Digging your filmmaking style! 🤙🏼

  4. You are 63?? Well done, Martin. A live well lived.

Love your videos and insights. You definitely deserve more subscribers.

  6. While you were walking I noticed again how peaceful it was and can see why you love it. With the current and the 5 year old videos, it is as if time stood still there in that town. Wow, your son was such a little guy too.

I have noticed here and in other walking videos around Japan that it seems eerily quiet but calming. Existing where the background noise is mostly heavy traffic and emergency vehicle sirens that silence I would consider golden.

The suburbs are where I am interested living at and specifically in the Tokyo area. After seeing what they really look like in Shizuoka I think I will be pleased.

  7. What I heard was, I moved to Japan because my wife made me.
That's what I used to tell people, anyway because it was and is tough to explain to Canadians who get a constant barrage in the media telling them that Canada is the best country in the world. What is the old expression, wherever I lay my hat, is my home.

  8. Watched on Twitter and really loved this, both the videos in the Q&A series really transmit a feeling of realness and emotion, thanks for sharing

  9. So peaceful indeed. I laughed when you said that it's not the inaka, it's the suburbs. I was having the exact same thought a second prior.

  10. What's amazing is the design contributes heavily to the peacefulness! Walking in the middle of the street or on the side of a major road without worrying about getting it by a car is amazing. My wife and I (when dating) took long walks around Kobe and we never once worried about anything — traffic, how will we get home, can we find a drink, etc. Everything is very thoughtful at making people comfortable with their daily lives. Thanks for the reminder and sharing your memories!

  11. I hope it will work out for my little family by the middle of next year. that we can finally live in japan. If I may ask, what are you doing there exactly? Greetings from Bavaria

  12. You are making a video of the goodness of the rural area, ordinary common people, and the goodness of the Japanese landscape rather than the central Tokyo.
