What do you do when you’re traveling across the country and one of you ends up getting Covid? In this episode, we find ourselves scrambling to figure that out. In Granville, Julianna has a terrible night of sleep, with fever, coughs, and body aches. Unable to get a Covid test at the Walgreens in town, we realize we should try to get to Rutland, some 25 miles away, where there are better rooms and better medical help. Julianna soldiers on, through her sickness and fatigue, along the gorgeous Delaware and Hudson Rail Trail, but some seven miles out of Rutland my chain breaks, and we are forced to slow our roll, with Julianna riding slowly as I walk up the hills and roll down them. We finally make it to a bike shop in Rutland, where the repairman informs us that it needs a whole new drive train. We manage to get a room in town, but the only places available for us to quarantine for as many days as Julianna will need, are at the Killington ski area, 15 miles and 2000 feet above Rutland. I rent a van, haul us and our bikes up to the condo, drive the van back to Rutland and begin the ride up the pass. Unfortunately, I have a flat. And left my repair bag up at the condo. So again, I have to hoof it some eight miles to get back to our condo. On the way, I develop signs of Covid, and in no time Iβm struggling with each step. Once I made it back, we both quarantine until the danger passes, with no further complications. But the illness leaves us deeply exhausted, and with that and many days of forecasted cold rain ahead of us, leave the remainder of our trip, of which we have only some 200 miles, in jeopardy.

Boy that was a tough time. Good job of staying so positive. A lot of up and downs on that route. We are at peak here were we live. Glad you were able to ride on. Thank you for another great video. Take care and stay safe, Al
Wow, Ive been following your journey from the start. Watching this made me feel crappy and it didnt even happen to me. Covid, the chain, the flat, I mean i dont know how you guys stayed as positive as you did under those circumstances. Ive rode my bike to work being sick before over the years commuting and cant imagine being on a bike tour having covid. Way to stay strong. Be safe out there.
All that gear you carry and you don't have a quick link or a spare chain?
After all that adversity you've been through, I'm looking forward to a triumphant finish. I'm planning on doing the Adventure CyCycling Association's Southern Tier route this spring. I plan on going back and watching all your videos and taking notes. Thanks.
First, Julianna you are a G.O.A.T., Roland you are also a G.O.A.T. Not sure I could have come through that with such a positive attitude. Great Video.
Turned into the "Rolls Canardly" bike tour, can roll down hills, can hardly get up the next. I mean holy crapola did you guys get hit hard. A week, maybe, from the end and all this happens. Good choice on the van rental and the condo in Killington. Not sure I would have stayed as positive as you have dealing with this. Cannot wait to see this to Portland (I think thats where you are headed).
Dang!
I'm sorry that you guys caught covid, wow seems like this has been the hardest leg of you ride, still a great video
You two are amazing. Peter and I had Covid before our first big bike camping trip on the Katy Trail.
I canβt imagine biking with COVID on hills. Your unwavering positive attitude gets you through.
Glad to see you had a place to quarantine and recover. ππ΄πΌββοΈππ΄πΌββοΈ

Lovely video. Both of you are an inspiration.
Catching covid was bad. Catching it during the height of leaf season and having to quarantine is rude. As was kicking you out of the hotel! "Trails, Trials and Tribulations" — this was definitely on of the Trials sections. You both are inspirational and I'm another one looking forward to your triumphant finish π
What an absolute bummer! Three things at once. Glad you are recovering and hope it is not too wet for the next 200 miles.
Oh, no guys I'm so sorry. I hope you get on the road soon. What shines through is that despite this you still have a positive outlook and did the responsible thing for everyone else.
That struggle was palpable. Thanks for sharing. You guys are real troopers.
So sad for this video section.
Your cross-country trip videos have been so tastefully filmed!
Your videos are sure to become popular references for bicycle travels!
Hope you two continue to make more bicycle travel tours!
So worth watching!!!
Thank you for sharing!
Well now, I watched this video the evening I got back form 5 days of cycling – and – the next day – This sunday the 9th of Oct – I got Covid. Now isn't that a coincidence.
Wow, what else can happen?! You really navigated your next steps well. Quarantining at Killington was a good move, as was having food delivered. Lol, I found myself wanting to deliver food and support to you! Difficult to handle all these challenges while sick with covid! You are both inspiring!
Way to be tough!
