【History of Isezaki-cho】
Isezaki-cho is an energetic shopping district. The area is centered around Isezakimomall, an outdoor pedestrian arcade lined with popular boutiques and department stores. After-work crowd the casual bars for happy hour, and karaoke rooms and live music venues are busy until late at night. Fast food restaurants, ramen noodle stores, conveyor-belt sushi restaurants, and cat cafes popular for their petting kittens are also available.
Isezaki-cho was established in 1874 in the former Kangai area, and grew rapidly along with the development of the Port of Yokohama. Because of its location near the port and in the center of Yokohama, entertainment facilities such as movie theaters and theaters, department stores, etc., opened one after another, and by the early Taisho period (1912-1926), it had become one of the most prosperous shopping areas in Japan. The term “Isebura,” which means “to enjoy a high-carat stroll” in Isezaki-cho, also became popular during this period.
In 1968, “Isezakicho Blues” by Mina Aoe became a big hit and the area became nationally known. However, with the development of the Yokohama Station area and the Minato Mirai 21 district, its status began to plummet in the late Showa period. Matsuzakaya, Marui, and Odeonza have all disappeared, and the few remaining long-established stores and newcomers coexist to maintain the shopping district.

【History of Hinode-cho / Kogane-cho】
The prewar Koganecho and Hinodecho areas were wholesale districts that took advantage of the water transportation of the Ooka River, but after the war, drug and gun trafficking and prostitution became a daily occurrence, especially under the elevated Keihin Express line. By 2004, the area was lined with over 250 illegal sex establishments, causing healthy establishments and local residents to move out, and the deterioration of the living environment had become a serious problem for the community.
In January 2005, illegal sex stores were rounded up under “Operation Bye-Bye” implemented by the Kanagawa Prefectural Police Headquarters. Subsequently, the city of Yokohama took the lead in creating a new image of the city: “urban development through art.” Art events were held using the former illegal brothels as the main venue, and after the exhibition, artists moved into the former illegal brothels. The artists have continued to work in the town.

【History of Noge-cho】
Noge-cho was the site of a black market after World War II, and the remnants of this black market gave the area a chaotic image. It was a place with a slightly scary image, with an off-track betting office and brothels nearby, and drunken old men sleeping in the daytime. However, the atmosphere of the town changed with the times, and before long, it switched to a cheerful and exciting town where the power of old men and young men collide! The number of female customers has also increased, and it has become a famous place of interest.
