Ironically, the festival started 200 years ago because there was an epidemic. People were dying and getting sick. After 9 days of honoring the 9 gods with cleansing and purifying rituals, people were cured! This includes no eating animal products and no drinking alcohol.

Wish I was there. Wonderful video

New subscriber here. I really enjoy your content. I’ve been researching SE Asia for the last three years and I’m undecided between Chiang Mai and Pattaya (though heavily leaning toward the chillness of Chiang Mai). I’m touching down in early January for the long haul. I expect to be in Thailand for at least a year (through an ED language school visa). I’m 53, retired military, a foodie, and am really looking to soak up everything about the Land of Smiles. After that, maybe a trip to Vietnam, Taiwan or the Philippines. Hopefully I'll be there for the Vegetarian Festival 2023! Keep doing what you’re doing!
