Today, my travels back in time take me to the famous grave sites of music legends Leon Russell & Roy Clark, whose final resting places are located near one another at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

I also show you my $55 a night hotel room at Extended Stay America, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, that just happened to be down the street from this cemetery. I booked it through Travelocity.

Thanks for joining me on another nostalgic road trip down memory lane.

  1. Steve, I remember Leon Russell was a semi regular on the show "Shindig" along with Glen Campbell, James Burton, Glen D.Hardin. Snuff Garrett brought in Leon to whip Gary Lewis and his band into shape , with obvious success.

  2. I. Remember Roy Clark also was on "Shindig" a couple of times. One episode has him singing solo sans guitar. I also have a memory of Roy playing a great version of "White Lightning" on the "Operation Entertainment" program. Keep up the great vlogs.

  3. I. Forgot to mention Leon Russell being on "Shindig" sans beard and short hair at the time was a member of Phil Spector's Wrecking Crew.

  4. Leon Russell, Glen Campbell, Shindig music director Ray Pohlmann were part of Phil Spector's Wrecking Crew. So was Glen D. Hardin . Glen D. Hardin and James Burton ( Rick Nelson, Elvis) Joe Osborn were the Shindig house band The Shindogs.

  5. Steve, google Leon Russell "Shindig" two videos come up, one fron November 18, 1964 has Leon singing Roll Over Bethoveen, Second is from 2/ 3/65 Leon is singing Jambalya w/ Glen Campbell on banjo. There is also another video with Leon and Glen from 1983 performing Gentle on my Mind.

  6. Leon Russell had a successful career in the music industry. What a beautiful headstone. I know Roy Clark from host of Hee Haw but I never followed his career but did enjoy his performances on the show

  7. Ah! I’m so happy you got to visit my fair city! And got to visit the master of space and time. Oklahoma is so windy.

  8. leon was the best me and my wife saw him life over 50 times i have over 300 records signed by leon over he was always nice to us

  9. I'll never have the chance to visit Leon Russell's grave, I found this upload using search in YT … thank you for sharing this visit

  10. I saw Leon`s 2 concerts and met him at a night club in Lincolnshire, Illinois called Shades. God Bless Leon. We will miss you alot. Glenn Sandberg

  11. Could you do a blog on Harold Reid of the Statlor Brothers. He is burried in StAunton city Virginia at the Thornrose cemitTary.

  12. e seem to have similar tastes in music as well, Steve. Leon Russell's gravesite is a truly lovely one. Roy Clark, I liked him as well; he was one of my Mom's favorites. The cemetery there is gorgeous – the grotto may be supposed to resemble a castle? It's certainly unusual.

  13. Unsure if this is the best place to mention it, but figured it would be as good as any. There's an online source which you may not know of, and which might help you plan future road trips & such quite a bit, Steve. It's "Found a Grave.com". I stumbled across it by accident myself searching for data on character actor Frank Marth, They have places of birth, death, cemetery locations, and often photos of the final resting places. The site seems to cover actors, singers, politicians, and well-known people generally. Check this out if you don't already know of it.

  14. I perhaps should have made it clear yesterday, that foundagrave, com is entirely a different database than Find a Grave Memorial is (although inspired by them, it appears).

  15. Enjoy your video and love the one that was posted here. Couple years ago I had a reason to be at that cemetery. My uncle has been there for many years and my aunt just join him a few months ago. I wish I would of known Roy Clark was there. It is a very beautiful cemetery. My uncle over look that lake which was very calming. Before I started to watch your video I found no comfort in cemetery but I now find a calming feeling. When I was back in Oklahoma my cousin took me to my dad father grave. I never knew anything about him not even his name or when he die. Learning about when he die explain a lot about my own dad. My dad never talked about his dad now I know why. My dad was only 12 years old, he was the oldest of 4 so he became the man of the house. Thank you for opening my eyes about the special treasure in cemetery.
Thank you for showing me where my favorite singer , his wife and his mom and dad is buried. I am talking about Dean Martin. Question Jeanne Martin is buried with her in law overlooking her grave. Is any of Jeanne relative ( her mom which Dean joke about his mother in law a lot. ) or Jeanne and Dean kids who has pass close to Jeanne. Their kids who has die is Claudia and their youngest son Ricki… He die a few month before Jeanne. If crouse Dean Paul who die in the 1980's in a plane crash while he was flying for the CA national guard. He is buried not to far from Dean in a close by national cemetery. Just wondering if you might like to help answer my question.
The no hanger on the water head can cause a major flooding mess. A care center I worked at learn that a hard way. A family member one night was trying to dry their family members underwater one night. During the night the fire alarm went off , water came spilling out of the resdients bathroom. The care center ended up putting those sign up in all of the other company center.

  16. "Superstar" was also covered by singer-songwriter Donny Hathaway around the same period. Often teamed with Roberta Flack, Hathaway was another casualty of the 1970s, he apparently committed suicide in early 1979.

  17. I live near Tulsa part of the year and I never know my Leon was buried there. Will visit his grave next summer, tho. My favorite song: "Sittin' on the highway in a broken van / thinking of you again. / Guess I'll have to hitchhike to the station / with every step I'll see your face, / like a mirror looking back at me." Say, Steve, have you been to Crawford, CO, to Joe Cocker's grave?

  18. Delta Lady was my fave. Steve, you should contact singers/actors and show them what you do and suggest a "PRE Memorial" interview! haha
