Travelling alone can be intimidating, and even more so when you are a female traveller. Here are my top recommended destinations if you are looking to embark on your very first solo adventure.
🇨🇿 Czech Republic. Crime rates here are low and I felt extremely safe walking by myself at night. Public transportation is super easy to navigate as well. Alternatively, you can take Uber in certain cities for as cheap as $3 if you don’t feel as comfortable. Prague, in particular, is a tourist favorite. You definitely don’t have to worry about being alone and you are bound to meet new friends.
🇸🇬 Singapore. Most, if not all, locals speak fluent English so there’s minimal language barrier. Like Czech, public transportation and Uber/Grab are readily available. It’s easy to meet other solo travellers here and you needn’t stress about not having someone to take your vacation gram.
🇯🇵 Japan. I have visited close to 10 times and I have honestly never once had a terrible experience or scary encounter. There may be a slight language barrier, especially when you venture off into the smaller, less touristy towns, but you will have no problem for the most part in Tokyo, Kyoto, or Osaka. Public transportation is incredibly convenient and there are even women-only carriages on the subway.
Of course, this is not to say that these countries are perfect. You should still exercise caution and have your street smarts with you. Remember to always trust your gut!
