Once this arrives, that's when I'll be returning to Orlando.
Im definitely riding this once with AR and then many times without and enjoy the ride.
The points don’t matter so, I’m going to just enjoy most my rides
I'm really surprised they didn't make the Mario Kart ride sort of like the Magic Kingdom Tomorrowland Speedway, only make it trackless, indoor with projection screens mixed with a physical set, 4 cars on the track racing, pick up powerups for speed boosts, getting shells and being able to target other players and make them spin out. That should have been the blue print, Disney should do what they did with Dinosaur, make a better version of the Universal ride. Use Tesla sponsor an make Tomorrowland Speedway a better Mario kart, but theme it to Candy Crush from Wreck it Ralph. Instant hit
Sorry to hear about MK. Hopefully it’s better in the US.
My hopes for the Yoshi ride was that they would extend it into the Donkey Kong land. It could look into that land as well, or if they didn't want to mix Yoshi and DK thru could just make it enclosed.
I think you nailed it with Nintendo meddling. I know they insisted on interactivity with the Mario ride. I also wouldn't be surprised to find out that they insisted on making the rides to Japanese tastes, or at least to what they thought the Japanese tastes would be. They are into photo ops and shops at about the same level as rides. I think Universal may not have fought back enough…
Just realized I wasn't subscribed, whoa look at all that new WDWNT content!
I'm kind of curious if Epic Universe will make changes to the rides since they're building this from scratch & not constructed by a very small footprint. Some of that we should be able to see/understand very soon via built footers/track.
love your honest reviews
i have to say river adventure is much better than dinsosaur at disney
So the only way to get a New Yorker to eat Chicago pizza is to pretend that it's from Mario, got it
Re: the observation about a lack of ECV's and mobility devices in Japan, the Japanese do not have a word for "Cankles". 'Nuff said.
Nintendo will never let it happen, but they ought to just ditch the AR altogether. The ride looks more immersive without the AR than with it. Shame this park isn't allowing guests to choose their experience.
Thank you very much for this detailed and honest review.
My family and I are very excited when we saw the initial footage from last year, we are a very Nintendo household with every game for Zelda and Metroid in particular. Now that we have heard your thoughts on Osaka's version of this land, we have tempered our expectations especially since we will be visiting the Hollywood version since it is closest to us. In all honestly it may become like Wizarding World for us (since none of us do well on screen heavy rides) and become a place to hang out and eat more so that ride the rides. We are looking forward to playing around with the POW blocks and such but we'll have to see what those lines will be like.
Hopefully this land will as time goes on especially if the planned Donkey Kong and rumored Zelda expansions show up in Orlando (no hopes for Hollywood unless they acquire more land).
Appreciate all of your honest reviews and am looking forward to your next one.
Poseidon Entertainment made a video defending the design philosophy and gimmicks behind both attractions in Super Nintendo World, and it can also be noted that language barriers are largely why people are confused about how the Mario Kart ride works.
Once universal opens this they are going to wipe the floor with Disney.
To call the present version a "failure" is kind of missing the point of it existing. If you take the goggles off, you completely lose the individualized interactivity element of the ride, THEN it would be a failure. Why make a Mario Kart ride that has NO individualized interactivity? You just want the riders to be passive? Come on, Tom. You're better than this.
I'm envious as I always have wanted to see this!
I definitely agree with you. However, I still would ride both rides because I love Mario Kart and I LOVE Yoshi!
we're a nation of fatties. i'm pretty sure disneyland is the ECV capital of the world.
Donkey Kong ride capacity is going to be horrible. Its a wild mouse coaster on a short track. 45-50 secs ride time if that.
Well sorry in my opinion this land is not that great, and people are really over hyping it. Sure the theming is spot on for the land itself. But the interactive stuff around the land honestly looks lame, especially after you do all those things once. Interaction like this has been around for decades, when I was a kid you stepped on a rubber mat and characters or scenes came to life. So not impressed with that.
As for the rides they are just crap. Yoshi looks like a boring ass ride and complete waste of space. They should have made that a more like "Buzz Lightyear" type of shooter ride. As for Mario Kart, how about something a little faster, I would think most people just want to ride in one of the karts and get spun out by a turtle shell or spin out the kart in front of you while you are racing around the track.
Hmmm, pretty sure you would just need to combine a few different current ride systems to achieve this.
Everyone was so hyped for the possible Mario Cart roller coaster when it was rumored lol
Are the masks mandatory or just a cultural preference?
For once, I thought maybe this channel would provide valuable insight on Universal. Nope, just the same crybaby nonsense the "junkies" keep spewing about SNW. Either y'all should really tone down the Disney bias or just stop going to Universal if you don't like their parks.
What makes this even more strange is that I rode a Mario Kart in VR, on a motion seat with pedals and a steering wheel in Toyko in 2018 at the former VR Zone. It was one of the best VR experiences I have ever had. Reaching up to grab a question block with you hands and then literally throwing not just pressing a button to release was so well done. Why would Nintendo and Universal just super charge that experience? Makes you wonder who is making these decisions as they really missed the mark on this one. Sure how they are not just blindly building the same ho hum ride in the USA but they probably are. VR Theme Parks are really going to shake things up so shocked we are not seeing more physicial sets.
