Maybe it's the editing, but may I say that you guys were a little out of luck when you visited the city. Beijing in the spring can be quite windy. Autumn is much better. Labor day is for sleep-ins or countryside-escapes; the only view expected in the city at this time is of the crowd. You ate the wrong food. I grew up in Beijing, and I never even tried some of the food you ordered. If it looks weird to you, most likely it would look weird to me.
Yea, it is totally possible we were in the city at the wrong time. The Labor Day holiday seemed to being a lot of people into the city who are not usually there and that may have had a big effect on how we felt about it.
I wish someone could have taken us around and showed us awesome places to eat, but we didn't happen to meet anyone that knew the area well.
You missed out on tons of nice places to visit, and no, Mao's tomb is definitely not one of them, and the place you called Tienanmen square is just a tiny corner of it — you were probably lost. I don't know why they flash so much, but those cameras are not the "big brother" watching you; it's not like that. As for the car accident, I don't know why you, as a civilized tourist, would be interested in joining the crowd of mobs and waste your time there. I would have walked right by.
I miss my city very much. It's such a pity that you didn't get the best out of your visit. If you had a guided tour with maybe a local friend, the experience would have been much, much better.
I'm 100% sure we missed a lot of good things to see. I wish we had looked up couch surfing or something to see if we could have made some local friends. I'm not sure what you're referring to about the "flashing", sorry, it's been a while.
Why did we stop at the car accident? Because the crowd itself was a spectacle. All the people fighting in the streets are a spectacle. We wanted to share the crazy things we were seeing around us with our friends. If I lived there I'd ignore it too.
And yea, we know Tiananmen Square is a huge area, but we find the area (that I think we were in) to be fairly iconic and recognizable.
Where do you live now?
Camera flash, probably a malfunctioned traffic cam. I really hate the crowd of bystanders; they make things much worse.
Anyways, maybe give it a few more years and try visit the city again? Only wish you find some good food next time. Food is so important.
You're probably right. Keep in mind we had been traveling at this point for 8 months. Perhaps some of the negativity we show in this video was from us being a little worn out at that time.
5:03, What in the fuck are on those bloomers!?
I have no idea!
I travel through China in 2008, My travel through the North was not that pleasant.
When I got to the South, It was a great experience. People in the south were more nicer and food way better. I would defiantly visit the south of China again.
OMGoodness, Eric had me laughing out loud with the comment at 3:00 "Welcome to the Pit of Despair…" Priceless and that just made my day.
6:25 'i realized the chinese are so sanitory concious', you were kidding right? Anyway, must be a real change coming from Japan, ppl peeing in buckets in the middle of a supermarket.
In China, bathrooms with open stalls are very common. To deal with this, bashful Chinese open their umbrellas and use them as privacy screens!
In Kyde's defense, us guys pee facing a wall, thus no exposure. But in that doorless toilet situation…
ahahahahah I love you two. No tampon applicator, eweeeee????? The Finger condom was hillarious. I'm so happy I can learn all these weird customs through you two!!!
The people in the north aren't as nice as the people in the south, education being a part of the problem. There is no such thing as a line either, its just a free for all bum rush! The things people do there really are disgusting as well. People from north mainland china are often regarded as hillbillies compared to the rest for whatever reason I'm not sure, but my encounters with the northerners have proven the same.
Kyde, At 5:44, that must be a male dog.
I'm finally going back and watching some of the videos I missed…This video has some comedic gems guys lol 2:58 LMAO
They don't come with applicators?!? Oh god..
