Last week we entered #Alaska. This week, it is the last stretch of this expedition to the Arctic sea through the oilfields of #Prudhoebay, in #deadhorse. The #landroverdefender of Eva, Odyssey, and our’s Albatross are on the last 800km up there. We embarked on the #daltonhighway and progressed straight up north. Under our eyes, sceneries were changing every day, every hour even. At the Atigun pass, we entered a new planet. In this video we show you the entire journey: The last night before Deadhorse, the road through the fog, the arrival in this town out of this world and the first dip into the Arctic (Nick and Eva went in… in their own way…).

That might be the end of this road, but it is the beginning of a much longer one across the Americas. #panamerican here we come! If you want to be sure you do not miss the rest of the journey, subscribe to the channel. See you next week, and until then, take care!

  1. It's fairly common in places that have really cold weather, to plug the vehicles in when not in use. There's generally two types: a block/frost plug heater, and a coolant heater. The frost plug type heats the engine block to around 125 degrees F, which keeps the oil from freezing, making it easier to turn the engine over. The coolant type heats the anti-freeze which then circulates through the engine block so it doesn't take so long for the engine to reach operating temperature (also gives you heat inside the vehicle right away).

  2. Amazing journey! You're such a lovely couple! Eva and Vilk were fortunate to find you guys! I've subscribed! ps I'm not vegan so your salami sandwich wins!

  3. I don't know if you elected to get a copy of Milepost, so in case you didn't, you may remember that shortly after that, you came through a wide spot in the road (not big enough to be called a town) by the name of Coldfoot. The story behind this name is that this is where many of the miners got "cold feet", i.e., lost their nerve/resolve, and decided to turn around and return home back in the Gold Rush days.
Although you didn't mention it, I assume you know that the reason for the Dalton Hwy. is what you saw to your left at around 12:20–the Alaska Pipeline. It was built so the construction crews could get up to the Arctic Ocean, and the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay. The is the USA's 1 and only road to the Arctic Ocean.
At around 18:20, probably there aren't many from Canada who've been to the ocean this way is because they have their own Arctic Ocean access at the end of the Mackenzie Hwy., the start of which you passed just before Dawson. The 3 towns up there are Inuvik (in-NEW-vick), Aklavik (ah-CLAV-ick), and Tuktoyaktuk (tuck-tuh-YACK-tuck), the 3rd. of which is on the Arctic Ocean.
Lastly, just for the sake of argument, up there, the Arctic Ocean has 2 seas–in the east, it's the Beaufort, and in the west it's the Chukchi (CHOOK-chee).
This probably happened long ago, so instead of recommending you stop for a visit at Denali N.P., I'll just say that I hope you did. It's a spectacular park. I spent 3 days there camping back in '84.
