A beautiful Japanese woman, “Miki Kitahara,” guided me around Ise Jingu Shrine on a rickshaw.
Miki san suffered a stroke and underwent heart surgery shortly after she started rickshaw riding.
Although the doctor told her that she could no longer do rickshaw jobs, she worked on her physical fitness and only a year and a half later she was back as a rickshaw driver.
I interviewed Miki, who says she hated exercise, about why she started rickshaw driving and many of her memorable experiences as a rickshaw driver.
I was able to enjoy the charms of Ise, including the breathtaking Inner Shrine in the morning, the OHARAIMACHI street with its many delicious stores, and the beautiful Isuzu River.
I hope this video gives you a feel of visiting Ise Jingu 😊.
If you visit Ise Jingu, please take a ride on Miki’s rickshaw!

3:21 The first thing that surprised me on my first visit to Japan was how loud the crows were in the city. I have never heard such loud calls! It was at that moment that I understood how Japan harmoniously lives with nature and can still be very modern.
7:54 Those are very beautiful antique houses.
Kitahara-san is very inspirational as she overcame physical limitations to do what she likes. Not many people have her strength.
Thank you for taking us on your trip along the Isuzu River!
