Tis the season – for beer! Oktoberfest beer. This is a classic style from Germany known as “Marzen Bier” and it only comes out once a year in Texas.

And so we’re lining up four Texas-made Oktoberfest beers and sampling them to see if we can spot the differences.

  1. Surprised no Shiner in this list?! I believe the Shiner Bock was their original fall Octoberfest beer. It has a ram (or bock/beck) on it, because it was supposed to represent when they came out of the mountains and into the valleys where the towns were for the winter (many beers do this for their bocks). It became so popular for Shiner, that they made it a year-around beer. Shiner "Premium Beer" is actually Shiner's original beer recipe that was made all year long. So if you want to drink the real Shiner, you should grab the Premium Beer. This was according to the Brewery tour in Shiner. Folks can correct me if I am mixed up and got this wrong.
