This is a Kyo-machiya property that is currently listed on sale for 220K USD. I actually wanted to start off with less commercialized videos showing the traditional houses in the rural areas of Japan, but due to Covid I am refraining from travelling outside of Kyoto. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy this video and I’m hoping to film outside of Kyoto once I have the chance.

※Showa should be until 1989. Sorry for the mistake!

====================

This channel will mainly consist of two categories of videos.
1) The renovation process of my Kyo-machiya home
2) My visits to machiya, kominka, or even akiya (abandoned) houses in different areas of Japan

If you are interested in seeing more on these traditional Japanese houses, please subscribe and I hope to upload more videos soon! Also feel free to leave comments or questions and I will try to answer as much as possible!

  1. I love the fusuma, both the fan ones and the one with the pine tree. A bit sad to think that they will most likely be thrown out by whoever ends up refurbishing this property.

  2. This house looks almost exactly similar to the kendo dojo I went with a couple of old 4 dan+ guys and my friend. My friend introduced me and was like, hey if you want to try out Kendo, you can come with me and practice at this informal meeting for free, so I did a couple of times and it was fun. The house was exactly similar but where the machines were supposed to be you had the dojo, maybe a bit longer but the same size. In the welcoming area (same as in the video, as you enter on the right) there was a table where we used to gather after practice and drink tea with pickled daikon.
