Lake Garda is located in northern Italy, at the foot of the Alpine mountain ranges. This is the largest freshwater reservoir in the country, its area reaches 370 km². The lake, located about halfway between Venice and Milan, adjoins the territories of three Italian provinces, but the inhabitants of the lakeside towns and villages have united in a special informal community of Garda. A magical aura of antiquity hovers over the densely built-up shores of the lake, mossy towers of medieval fortresses rise at every step, Renaissance palaces, ivy-covered Byzantine basilicas, ascetic churches founded by famous holy ascetics are hidden in the green of olive trees. The excellent tourist infrastructure surrounding Garda includes nature reserves and botanical gardens, amusement parks, restored historical and architectural monuments, theaters, museums and excellently equipped beach areas. Lake surface height above sea level: 65 m
