🐈Dialogue 🐟
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
D: Maple, we’re going to drive for a while today.
M: Yeah, today we are going to try some fish we’ve never eaten before, right?
D: Exactly. I saw that it was called Chozame in Japanese.
M: Chozame? I’ve never heard of that kind of fish in Japanese.
What’s it called in English?
D: We call them sturgeon.
M: All right. The Japanese name, Chozame, sounds like “Same”, which means shark, in Japanese.
D: Oh, yeah. But they are different in their physical characteristics and the environment in which they live.
I heard that the restaurant has some sturgeon in their fish tank.
M: Oh, so we can actually see them!
I’m looking forward to it.
M: How long does it take to get to the restaurant?
D: Well, it probably takes around 2 hours.
M: 2 hours? I’ll need a restroom break.
D: Don’t worry. I was going to stop by my favorite highway service area on the way.
M: What’s the name of the service area?
D: It’s Fujikawa Service Area. Do you know it?
M: No, I haven’t heard of it.
D: One of the facilities there is called Fujikawa Rakuza.
When the weather is good, from the food court terrace on the 3rd floor, you can see Mt. Fuji really well and up close. It’s so beautiful.
M: Today is a bit cloudy, so it’s probably hard to see Mt. Fuji.
D: You’re right, but it is a nice facility.
M: OK.
D: Here we are. Let’s enter the building and we can use the restrooms there.
We will have to drive a little further after that to get to the restaurant.
M: Ok.
D: From here, you normally should be able to see Mt. Fuji.
M: Oh, there is nothing… I want to come back here when it’s sunny.
D: Yeah, we can come back here any time.
D: Maple, we are almost there.
M: Great.
D: I hear that the restaurant has only counter seating.
M: Do you mean the chef will be right in front of us?
D: That’s right.
M: Wow, I might get nervous.
D: I think you’ll be fine.
D: Ok, we’re here.
M: Let’s see if we can see the sturgeon.
M: Wow, they look a little bit like sharks.
D: Yeah, but they are bony fish while sharks have lots of soft cartilage.
D: Maple, enjoy your sturgeon dishes!
M: Thank you!
D: How was the meal?
M: Everything was fabulous!
The chef told me that he gives tours of the sturgeon farm if requested at the time of meal reservation.
D: Oh, really? That sounds like fun.
M: But today he is not available.
D: OK. We should ask for that next time.
D: Now, let me take you to some spots where we can enjoy some local foods.
M: What are famous foods around here?
D: There is the Mentai Park and the Wasabi Museum.
M: Cool. How do you say Mentaiko in English?
D: It’s called spicy cod roe.
M: How about Wasabi?
D: It’s called Japanese horseradish.
D: There is also a rest stop between the Mentai Park and the Wasabi Museum.
M: Cool.
M: Thank you. I learned a lot!
D: Glad to hear it.
M: David, before going back to Hamamatsu, I want to go to a cafe!
I found a great one online!
D: All right. Do you know how long it’ll take from here?
M: It’s only about 10 minutes.
D: Sounds good. Then, let’s have a rest there and then go back home.
M: Thanks, David!
D: Is this the cafe?
M: Yeah, I think so.
D: So it looks like we have to go up the stairs.
M: Yes, we have to be careful because it’s raining pretty hard now.
D: Isn’t it interesting? The cafe is on the top of the hill.
M: Yeah, the outside of the cafe is nice. There are some carp in this pond.
M: David, I just asked the server for her recommendation.
D: Great. What does she recommend?
M: Her husband is Australian, so she recommends this Australian traditional cake, called Lamington.
It’s sponge cake coated with chocolate sauce, with dried coconut sprinkled all around it.
D: Wow, it sounds great. Let’s try that.
M: Sure, I’ll order one each for us.
D: The cake was so good.
M: Yeah, it really was.
The server was so nice and friendly.
D: Maple, It’s time to go home.
M: Okay. I really had a wonderful time today!
D: Yeah, it’s sometimes nice to visit places away from our city.
M: Yep. It’s refreshing.
D: This time, we enjoyed eating sturgeon.
And I think it’s about time we visited Shizuoka’s famous restaurant Sawayaka.
