絲木棉屬落葉喬木，別稱美人樹，高 8 至 15 米；樹幹具短刺；葉螺旋排列於當年生枝上，基部楔形，邊緣在基部以上有鋸齒，表面亮綠色，背面淡綠色；花單生或2至3朵簇生於枝上部葉腋，花序有時因苞葉脫落而呈聚傘圓錐狀。花期十月至翌年二月，果期十二月至翌年二月。

Floss Silk Tree is a deciduous tree that grows to 8 to 15 m tall with short spines on the trunk. The leaves, spirally arranged on the current year’s branches, are serrate above the cuneate base. They have a bright green upper surface and a pale green underside. Flowers occur solitarily or in clusters of 2 or 3 in axils of apical leaves. The inflorescence sometimes takes the form of a cymose panicle due to the fall of subtending leaves. The tree blooms from October to February and fruits from December to February.
