Where did you find your travel jewelry case
Hi Laurie – how do you keep your carry on to 7kgs which a lot of airlines are now stating as the limit for carry on?
Love the top you had on for the video Laurie!
also consider in your packing the weight
I roll my clothes and put them inside of packing cubes and nestle other items in the caverns between the handles. I carry my coat and wear my heaviest shoes on the plane. Your videos are so helpful.
Love the bloopers. You have so many good ideas for packing. I don’t travel but you can still use many of your ideas.
You know I had to laugh, I pack with compression cubes and you’re right, sometimes they are so counterproductive because I have them stuffed so much, I have no room for anything else. I am going to Canada in November and I think I will definitely try different ways to pack as you suggest!!
Thank you so much for all the suggestions! Traveling soon to Portugal for 3 weeks with a carryon and personal item bag! Toiletry bags are so bulky so I ditched those for a flatter mesh bag with minimal items and I plan to buy shampoo, sunscreen etc. when I arrive.
I use packing cubes for underwear and tshirts. I use the tiny ziplock bags that extra buttons come in to keep necklaces separate. A capsule wardrobe is essential to maximize the number of outfits and I find silky scarves take up very little space and really dress up an outfit. Love your videos ❤
Im heading to ATL soon and I haven't flown since the P started! Im sure some things have changed! ill be searching your videos for tips!
I always enjoy your tips! I think I’ll use the newspaper plastic bags for my shoes in the future….I have shoes bags but I believe they take up to much room. Thank you 🤗🥰💕 Happy travels ❤️
Packing in a soft duffel carry on my with the rolled method. Summer vaca. Packing cloths only..
I'm 54 and between my makeup bag & toiletries, that takes up at least 75% of my carry on. It's not a lot of makeup but between my drops for dry eye, lotions for exema and all the other stuff I have to take and put on lol, it's just too much. I wish it was as easy as my husband who literally needs his clothe, deoderant, toothbrush & toothpaste and that's pretty much it. he's fine using the shampoo and soap at the hotel. One tip we do when traveling with winter coats. We wear them on the plane and put a trash bag in the pocket of the coat. Once we're on the plane, we put our coats in the trash bag and put that in the overhead so our coats aren't touching the dirty wheels and things of suitcases.
Hi Laurie!!! I just returned from a 10 day trip with carry on only!!! Thanks to you, I made it happen. My girlfriend was blown away. Thank you so much, I love you channel. Happy Travels!!!
I love tip #2. The extra space seriously comes in handy
Love those bloopers 😂
Hi Laurie. In the case of an early morning flight, I don't want to buy food in the airport, it is too costly. What foods do you recommend to bring that is TSA appropriate. Can take homemade sandwiches?
I lay out my necklaces on cling wrap, fold the wrap over so it sticks to itself and it never tangles, it’s held in place.
I often pack socks, underwear and even some tops that are near the end of their life. That way I can discard them and make room for anything I’ve purchased.
In the flat side of my hard shell suitcase I Kon Marie fold my clothes so I can see everything I’ve got and take out one piece without disturbing anything else. That side has a fabric top that zips to keep it all in place like a big packing cube.
In the side with the channels I use long narrow packing cubes that hold my underwear, socks and makeup pouches with miscellaneous items along with shoes individually in clear produce bags. They all tuck into the narrow spaces. Since that side only has elastic straps with clips, I cover it all with a multi-purpose sarong to hold it all in place. The sarong can be a dress, skirt, shawl, blanket, curtain, lampshade cover, sheet or blanket, tote bag, scarf, tablecloth, etc.
I really enjoy your tips and tricks. I have purchased the backpack (personal item) and I love it….Can I ask what brand shoes you're wearing in this segment….I didn't see them listed.
My solution to packing a coat was a Lands End down coat that folded into its own pouch. It took up very little room and I was able to stash it in my personal bag when I needed to or in my suitcase when I didn't. It worked great!
Laurie you always have such great tips and ideas for packing
I’ve never flown. This Thursday will be my first plane ride. I folded my clothes. Did great. Thanks for this video ❤
I’m excited to pack for our upcoming San Antonio trip with just my carryon and my personal bag. I really need to pare down the skin and hair care items. I had made a list years ago and I photocopy it with every trip and then put a check mark by the items as I pack them. I purchased your compression cubes, too and the mesh stand up bags. One more thing, I like the highlights in your hair!
I believe in the folding method….. it's flatter in most cases!!😉
1. Divide your rollabout carry-on into 6/9 spaces (spaces in-between the bars)
2. Wear the bulkiest items (coats, sweaters, boots, sneakers, etc) Your coat can be used as a pillow (head, back/legs)
3. Pack with Potential-Purchasing in mind
4. Fold into the most compact sizes you can, to fit your stacks into those 6/9 spaces, within lingerie/delicate zippered bags
5. Insert shoes around sides/make them your bottom layer, with ziplock bags/shower caps
6. Extra ziplocked toiletries/small odd shaped items can be secured within your shoes
7. Use bras as extra cushion for fragile souvenirs
8. Keep dirty laundry to a minimum (1 small load within a bag/pillow case)
9. Necklaces can be wrapped around makeup brushes to avoid tangles
10. Pack 2 pillow cases for dirty laundry & make an extra pillow out your coat
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE WHAT A CORNER/POCKET CAN HOLD!!!
Travel thrillfully ALL!!!✈️🧳🗺️🛍️🎒🛄🤗
LOVE that necklace! LOVE IT! I used cubes on last trip and I really like using them. Thanks for a smile with the bloopers
Our NR bags don’t stop anymore they go on to the destination 👀✈️
Love your videos and tips. The bloopers are always hilarious. One thing I do for dirty clothes is bring an empty thin packing cube with a dryer sheet inside. Then as I use clothes I put them in that cube to separate them from my clean clothes. Also, I put dryer sheets in my shoes as well as the side of my suitcase with my clothes. Just makes it smell fresh when I open it up.
So helpful! Traveling to Europe next spring for the first time!
Your a pilot wife so how do u know that
HI LAURIE, GREAT PACKING TIPS! THANK YOU.
😍😍😍😍
Hi Laurie just wanted to thank you for all your videos. My husband and I are currently in Ireland we’ll be here and in Scotland for 3 weeks…and we only used carry on!! Your tips helped a lot. It’s pretty cool here but we left our heavy jackets at home. We’re using layers.
One last thing, one of your viewers commented on a previous video, when I said we’d be coming through the UK, about the smaller plastic bags you have to use for liquids. Sure enough, when we were changing planes at Heathrow, we had to take everything out of our quart bag and put it in these flimsy plastic ones they provided. I was so glad to have had the warning. Your viewers are awesome.
Does airplane allow selfies stick in carry-on? Any size or restrictions?
I so enjoy your videos! I’ve been subbed for a long time. I’m legally blind and travel every 3 months without fail. It may sound and sometimes feel like I’m 6 yo when I wear my travel “wallet” around my neck which includes my boarding pass, DL, and my tip money only, for those employees that assist me to the gate and through security and back. I have a folding cane for TSA and do carry a carry on and check a suitcase. I pack most of my toiletries and makeup and carry very little (due to its weight) in my tote bags.
I always fly SW airlines and have NEVER had a problem with ANY employee and they are more than willing and welcoming every time I fly from Texas too.
I use the rolling method for my clothes and have help identifying what coordinates and fold these together. I too am an overpacked and you’d think I’d learn by now lol.
Even though I just got back from my personal business, due to a family emergency, I’m flying out again in a week. I don’t use a backpack as I’m afraid I’d hit someone taking it on and off since my sight is extremely limited yet I sit in a window seat so I board first and count my seats since it’s open boarding but sitting next to the window, I’m out of the way of other travelers.
I love flying and you’re tips and tricks are helpful especially for a blind person who needs all the tips/tricks I can get! Thanks, Laurie!
I got one of those new suitcases with the hanging closet – and I really like it. I’m actually a roller because I travel for work and hate ironing!
I could have used you on my last trip lol
I have been your packing tips for the past month and they have really helped me enjoy my trip. Do you have hacks for packing a full toiletries? And how to handle dirty clothes?
Tried to pack carry-on for our 3nt cruise and I ran out of clothes ugh. Ended up having to send out a shirt and a pair of capris. Underestimated how much I was going to use.
We were so frustrated on our last flights because so many people are flying carry-on so it's a mad dash in the terminal to get on the plane first so you have space to put your carry-on. We were one of the last to get on and they were trying to get people to check even their personal items!! I said hell no because I had some very fragile items in my personal item so I got on the plane with mine.
I love watching your channel for tips, it was nice to laugh with your bloopers today. I am planning my business trip to Canada in Oct. and since I live in HOU, I not only have to pack a winter parka but heavy computers. Packing cubes are my friends! And now straws! Thanks for your help.
Can i carry my flat iron in my carryon
Where did you get the sweater you are wearing? Looks cute!
❤️
LAURIE HELP! I’m taking a red eye to Nashville tomorrow 9/30 I’m only taking a carry on and personal bag. I’ve been watching your videos non stop! I have to pack supplements gel caps and liquids (I’m on a very strict medical program) some of the drops have to stay refrigerated how do I pack these?
Need you to do a video of cold weather trip! Heading to Vermont next Oct. , the first full week! Thanks
Laurie: Dallas Pilot Wife here…. LUV all your tips!!!! Q: re the small wheeled roller bag behind you ? I’m confused, do you really like /use that backpack for underwear use? Or the small roller????? I’m considering g the backpack (to make sure it fits) thanks!
Linnie
Hi Laurie, Thank you for the fantastic tips that you give on travel. My question is how do you pack lighter for colder or rainy weather? (Which kind of coat is most useful or best for travel?)
This was perfect timing – it came out 2 days before I flew home (watched it the day it came out, just didn't get around to commenting until today). Not gonna lie, I loved using my tiny suitcase on this last trip – so much easier to deal with, despite the side handle being on the wrong side (could grab it on the correct side using the side pocket, though, so that helped a bit); I could actually use one hand to lift it up and put it in the overhead bin after basically rocking it on, then kicking it up with, my knee, allowing my right shoulder to avoid lifting the weight (recently got it set and I'm not supposed to lift heavy stuff with it for a few weeks). And with the stetson (I'll get that at Christmas, since that'll be a road trip) and 17 days' worth of meds no longer in it, everything fit inside just fine without having to press down on it to get the zipper closed. I actually only used 2 of my 4 packing cubes on the way back (used 3 of the 4 on the way out), so I just stuck the extras down the water reservoir sleeve of my backpack. And the cords and toolkit for my wheelchair all fit in the side pocket of the suitcase, so I put them there and TSA didn't have to open the suitcase at all to figure out what those objects were. In fact, they didn't need to see anything, which just allowed me even more time.
Funny story – there was no line at MSP PreCheck when I got there, and as soon as I pulled out my ID (according to my best friend who works there, apparently MSP was the first airport to try out the technology that brings up the boarding pass/reservation info when they scan just the ID), the officer at the scanner looks at me and says, "Wait, weren't you the one who asked me the last time to say hi to __ for you?" and I responded with, "I was about to say, 'Weren't you the officer I asked to say hi to __ for me?', because you look really familiar", and we had a good laugh. Yep, it was in fact the same super nice and helpful officer that I had when I flew home in July. But it didn't end there.
When I got to the gate at MSP and went to check in with the gate agent, after we got the logistics squared away, I asked him if he was the gate agent the last time I flew out of there (same gate as when I flew home in July, even though I was going straight to DEN this time instead of to ORD first) because he looked really familiar, and he did in fact remember me. So that was pretty great – he joked that I must have put in a specific request to fly out of that particular gate again, and we had a good laugh.
All in all, a great start to the travel part of the day, considering that I was terrified that the security line would be out the door by the time I got there (apparently, according to my best friend's fiance who also works security there, there tend to be extremely long lines for security on Tuesdays, particularly in the afternoon, sometimes so long that they go out the door, around the parking deck, then back into the terminal, so he suggested I get there at 2 in case the lines were really long; it did get a lot busier right after I went through, though, so I must have just managed to hit it at a slow moment right before the evening flight rush), since I didn't get there until 3:15 and boarding started at 4:11, but thankfully there ended up being zero line, so I had just enough time to do everything I needed to, and even had a couple extra minutes, before boarding started. And DEN didn't try to change my gate 4 times this time – I didn't even have to leave the higher half of B.
Hi Laurie, do you like your Level 8 hard case luggage? How are the wheels?
Hello, can you do a video on a rolling backpack which would fit an ipad and a laptop, where you don’t have to remove the laptop from the bag during security check? Would a clear backpack work? Thanks in advance!
Laurie, I don’t know which video you mentioned this in, but I wanted to thank you. Your hint was to save copies of documents in Notes on iPhone but specifically in the folder called “On My iPhone” so it resides on the iPhone and cell or WiFi coverage isn’t needed to access it. I’ve got an upcoming cruise and have done that with everything I need. I’ll still print critical items but it’s good to know I have easily accessible backups.
