Nestled in the heart of the Japanese Alps, Takayama is the ideal place to experience nature and Japan of yesteryear. With its traditional streets and many craft shops, its famous biannual festivals and the Hida Museum Village with its typical thatched roofs, do not pass on the opportunity of visiting Takayama.

  1. I've made 3 trips to Takayama .. ate at the restaurant featured in this video. I advise people to sample the unique plum wine from an old brewery. I actually prefer winter, even though it's cold .. the snow makes the heritage section look like a fairy land .. very beautiful.

  2. I ate at that restaurant too . very delicious , especially the beef with hoba miso

  3. My family and I enjoyed our visit to Takayama very much. Such a beautiful place that my heart longs to go back to.

  4. I'm looking to add takayama/shirakawago/kanazawa from tokyo. But i'm kind of confused if i should ride my JR train from tokyo to takayama first or kanazawa and then head out to kyoto? or the other way around. Any suggestions i'd appreciated it!

  5. Love Takayama, it is a must for tourist going to Japan and JR rail from Nagoya is a must in geting to Takayama. Food, sake and getting dressed in kimono and samurai clothes was a great experience also

  6. I was in Takayama, just 1 day in the Japan travelling. I went there for the open-air baths (Onsen) but we didn't find it nearly (like 1 hour with bus from takayama and we already travelled there 3hours with train [it was really worth but we didn't had enought time]) so in another day we gone to a closed Onsen in Kyoto.

If i could i would have explored more that place, make shure what its said in the video its totally true; Nara, and Takayama are the most rural, beautiful places I visited in my trip to Japan.

  7. I love Takayama so much, i love the Hida Beef in a Yakiniku, the museum and the entire town. I want to go back there. I miss Japan so much
