Kifune Shrine in Kyoto is the head shrine of all water deities in the country.
The shrine changes its appearance with the seasons and is visited by many worshippers.
The old custom of visiting the three shrines – the main shrine, the inner shrine and the Yuinoyashiro – has remained.
The area is also popular as a summer resort, with ‘kawadoko’ (riverbeds) lined up along the Kibune River in summer.
