  1. Addendum to this awesome vid:
    Top recommendations for accommodation are
    (1) Get an Airbnb in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), for ultimate comfort and the most positive stay in Manila, all the best upmarket establishments are here, as well as nightlife and shopping (most recommended!);
    (2) Book a hostel or hotel in Poblacion Makati, for all the excitement. Pop-up stalls and markets, bar hopping/pub crawls, street food, and an interesting mix of bohemian-hipster cafes and red light district nightlife.
    (3) Airbnb for a cheap condo in the Mall of Asia area (Aseana City), for quick access to the airport and for experiencing the sea breeze from the bay (for those who need a place to stay for a day or two).
    (4) Resorts World Manila only for those who need an overnight stay and don't want to risk the traffic leaving the airport complex.

    Accomodation in any other area of the Metro is either too far or inconvenient to get to and/or from. Otherwise these areas aren't geared for first time (or even repeat) visitors to the city 🙂

    For transport: Download the Grab app and just use that for all your travel within the city. Don't use local taxis as they're scam-mobiles.
    Use the LRT and MRT (overhead metro) lines as a second resort, and only in the middle of the day (between 10am and 3pm), not during rush hours because it is packed to the brim.

  2. Manila is not the worst city like I always hear but this is from me. I'm kind of biased as a filipino american but the city does have good things. I would't call it a city to spend your time like Paris, Rome, or other major cities but it can good for one to two days before going out to the nature and islands. If the city and country just had better public transport like subways,was more clean, and fixed the noticeable poverty in a lot of areas it would be much more respected cause there is decent parts, great people, and culture. Hopefully Manila can continue to be better and be the city it once was. Really passionate about the city being great like it once was.

  3. Manila was almost completely flattened in 1945 during World War II liberation by American forces from february to march of that year destroying countless Spanish era buildings, beautiful churches, monasteries, educational institutions which were among the firsts in Asia, spanish houses and monuments dating back to the first years when the city was founded in 1571 by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi. Almost 400 years of Spanish history of Manila was almost completely destroyed and not only from the Spanish period but from the American period as well; the one-of a kind Art Deco buildings built by the Americans, renaissance bridges, schools, were destroyed which led to a massive impact in the change in Filipino society today. After the war reconstruction efforts were done but only in some areas of Manila. What we see today in Manila particularly in Intramuros was reconstructed buildings because only San Agustin Church survived the bombings in 1945. there were 7 original gorgeous Spanish churches before and the whole place was like Madrid of Asia with cobbled stones lined with Castillian houses. Spanish language also almost died due to war but today only a minority speaks it in Manila and in some major cities of the Philippines. Spanish remained as one of the official language of the country together with English and Tagalog until EDSA revolution of 1986 and since then the number of native Filipino Spanish speakers dwindled greatly. 21st century knowledge seemed to revive the language due to the economic benefits Spanish can do to Filipinos that were not clearly seen in the past decades because BPO centers now prefer bilingual Spanish and English Speaking Filipinos.
    the heart and soul of the country almost vanished, today modernity changed the face of Manila making it a bustling metropolis mixed with ecclectic architecture in an organic setting.
