Japan reopens Oct 11 2022 and I can’t tell you just how excited I am about this!

I’ll be sharing about the new rules that have been announced as well as talk about the limited time, 3 day JR pass that you should be using and also the travel incentives from the government.

  1. Good evening everyone,

I have a trip with my parents to Singapore and then to Thailand, as of right now our departure from Bangkok to Tokyo is on Oct. 7th which requires a VISA – that said and for ignorance I was never awared that we needed a Tourist VISA in order to visit Japan especially the ERFS Permit plus Tour Guide etc.

That said – we booked our flight with (ZIPAIR) however there are no flight changes nor refund but just a cancellation (has anyone cancelled with them?) and our departure from Tokyo is Oct. 10th at 4:55PM to arrive at 10:50AM at LAX.

All of that and the news that we need a VISA my dad obviously wants to hang me from the tallest tree here in my city – however I am taking actions and overhauling the trip. I started to look for news about Japan Opening the Borders and one day after the PM comes out to say it is starting Oct. 11th (coincidence?)

Anyway – we are Mexican Passport holders to which we are part of the Blue Country list (as well Thailand) and we do not require a VISA as we are also part of the (68) countries that don't need it.

Based on the news would the airline allow us to board the plane and travel to Tokyo? The flight schedule is:

Bangkok (11:15PM) to Tokyo (07:30AM) of Oct. 11th

Which is the day that – supposedly, we no longer need a VISA nor Test nor Quarentine nor nothing. Is it worth taking the risk?

Also, I spoke with the Embassy of Japan in Mexico and they told me we could land there if and only if:

    we are on transit

    airline (ZIPAIR) allows us to

However my mom needs to check-in her luggage to which will make it hard as we need to cross through customs…

    Thoughts and Opinions are welcomed…

    Regards!

  2. Do people from America need to do pcr test? Ive read online that they dont?

  3. The JR East pass is similar to other regional JR passes available to foreign tourists for three and four day travel periods. The all-Japan JR passes are the ones that run for 7, 14 and 21 days depending on the customer's choice. I used an all-Japan JR pass a while back to travel from Nagasaki to Sapporo in 24 hours, not something you can do with a regional JR pass.

I'm looking forward to visiting Japan again next year, probably in May 2023.

  4. Thank-you so much for the updates! For first timer… will be coming from Busan Korea to Japan, how & where would you recommend us to use the the 3 days JR pass? We would like to make the most of the 3 days pass, especially for sushi lovers & beautiful sceneries 😅 Advance Thanks! 🙏

  5. I could use a 3 day pass, but I won't be arriving to Japan until November. oh well.

  6. EL JR PASS para los extranjeros se puede usar con lo que quiere decir JR WEST, JR EAST, ETC? si puedo viajar por tren en todo el pais mientras tenga el logo de JR? es algo que no logro entender.
