Everything YOU need to know before you travel to Tokyo Japan. Tokyo is hi-tech and old school at the same time. ancient Shinto shrines next to giant skyscrapers. It feels like something out of a science fiction movie, particularly neighborhoods like Shibuya with it’s huge light up signs. Skyscrapers, robots, sumo, and the world’s busiest train stations, it’s an amazing place. Tokyo is one of Japan’s 47 prefectures and is composed of 23 wards, 26 cities, 5 towns, 8 villages. It’s technically not a city, but a metropolitan prefecture.

  1. Japanese respect lines and not cutting in, that’s why they get annoyed at the Chinese Tourists.

  2. I’m waiting for an NFL game there or maybe go see a band that I’m friends with that is touring Japan

  3. Good thing I still have the 180,000 yen I got in March 2020 when it was 104 yen for every USD. Oh well, at least tourism is resuming.

  4. The video might have a few years old but the advices are spot on any time , specially now that Japan is reopening, the suica, pasmo or any of the metro cards are so useful if you don’t want to carry 1 pound of coins inside your bag, coins are really easy and fast to stack , if you keep forgetting them and keep paying notes 😂

  5. Hi Chris. Great info for the first timer and well season traveler to Japan. People here are very excited about Japan opening up to regular tourist. Take care and gave a wonderful weekend.

  6. I love Japan and when I went to Osaka in 2019. I followed Chris's tips how to get around on the metro. Can't wait to go back and see it 😊

  7. Only 19? 😁 When do you think Japan will open up again for non-touring visitors? I heard they may loosen restrictions in Oct, but not fully open yet…? I was planning to go to Hokkaido's ice festival last year, but they only did 1/2 effort and we couldn't get in anyway so we are still waiting…
In a pinch once I got hot coffee in a can from the vending…it was SO GOOD! I gave up hotel coffee after that and would seek out the machines every morning. Only problem is the can was small…get two cans to equal one American coffee. 🙂

  8. Timely video as tourism is opening up Oct 11. Seems video was made a while ago but most things still applicable. Big difference for US tourists is the exchange rate of 140 yen per dollar making the country much cheaper than before.

  9. Every time I see Tokyo it reminds me of one of my favorite movies: Lost in Translation and it’s famous line “For relaxing times, make it Suntory time.” Nice whiskey, btw, and it pares beautifully with an A5 wagyu steak.
Tokyo is a truly dizzying metropolis.
    Great video, Chris.

  10. I visited in 2012, the first time I used a vending machine I got the shock of my life when my iced coffee came out boiling hot. Learnt what the red button was for.

  11. Awesome! Thank you for the information, pretty much is all that I really needed to know before to travel. 👍👍👏👏😊😊😍😍❤❤

  12. One thing that I think was missed was that Japanese people don’t usually speak on the train. They are usually quiet to respect other people around them. Should mention this to not look like a rude tourist, like I made myself when I visited.

  13. Great video and info, Chris! I assume this video was pre-covid and pre-Travelling Princess. Can't wait till I go back to Japan; I'll definitely be checking out some of your videos before I go!

  14. Great tips. We finally booked cruise in Japan for Feb 2024. Will have to have a look at a lot of your other Japan videos. We do want to do Tokyo Disney so we will do what you suggest and stay near there for a couple of nights and then a few nights in Tokyo.
