I believe there's now a schedule flight from Udon to Hua Hin which would negate the need to drive 14 hours. I do appreciate that 'Home' is a fair way from Udon and HH is a fair way from your mums new place, but I'd guess they're both within a reasonable taxi fare ride.

Chuck , I’m here in Jomtian partly, due to you selling me on the thought of living in Thailand and trying to find my way in life, my happy place. First of all, you have motivated me to move to Thailand as a Solo Traveler and I’ve had Parkinsons since the age of 31 and I’m 57 now. My family thinks I’m crazy of course.
