THE PATH OF WILDNESS
The Path of Wildness is easy to find
The course of a stream
Leaves blown in the wind
A beast’s track through the brush
And the direction of our first inclination
The Path of Wildness is an answer and response to a prescribed way of life which may leave some individuals with a sense that their living is little more than a series of pre-determined, step-like episodes between birth and death. The stages of living between these events: childhood, adolescence, adulthood, parenthood and senior are themselves natural and in accord with the needs of the species and most individuals. Many find their satisfaction in living this course and to these individuals I have little or nothing to say. Others though long for something more; something innate, genetic and seemingly calling. Adventure and change can give a degree of satisfaction and relief yet even these may seem too tame. To those who feel drawn to something beyond the entertainment and stimulation of senses I offer a walk along The Path of Wildness. Don’t bother penciling the event in your schedule, preparing a pack with goodies and supplies or even inviting a friend along, for this experience is along the course of your first inclination and you must surely always go alone.

wonder how bad it would hurt to surf into one of those rocks
Stunning video: such a beautiful place. And I love the ramble too. It's vintage softypapa.
I was at that beach a couple weeks ago. Absolutely beautiful place.
Hey Kurt, I'm glad to see you happy, enjoying contemplating the world and putting up on YouTube again! Life has its ups and downs and your videos help dress the highs and console the lows.
I have to say, this one made me miss my beachside life in Portugal. Oh well. I'm enjoying waking up early to push myself through the biking trails of Ottawa, thinking about all that there is to think about before work. But man, the waves, I forgot about those….
Another fantastic video Kurt. :o)
That beach looks like good fishing 🙂
You've caught some GREAT surfers in action!!! Super fun to watch!!
Wow…I'm minutes away from Newport/HB but I've never checked out Laguna. Looks amazing…
I love that beach at first I couldnt tell but then when you encountered that statue it just came to me!
Great story, but unfortunately with my mind that has been altered throughout the years, i would have been thinking what kind of scam is this girl trying to pull on me. The best thing about being the age that we are was being able to grow up in the 60's and 70's. To me those were great decades. Back then I would never had thought we would have cell phones and the internet. Looking forward to see what else this world will uncover.
Looks like a scary place to surf with those rocks.
This is a fantastic video, Kurt… Such beautiful surroundings! The Japanese mountains were certainly spectacular and ethereal (from what I gathered from your videos) but the coast of California is a different kind of beauty… That water vapour in the air which 'layers' each rocky outcrop and cliff edge as you look down the coast looks unreal! I love all those strange coastal plants on the cliffs too, it's like an alien shoreline on the edge of that chaotic ocean. I've got to go there one day!
Your views about death being just around the corner are interesting. I'm 24 myself, and even though I'm young, I still am acutely aware that I will die in just a few decades. I think it was Sam Harris who said that without a belief in an afterlife 'life appears to be an emergency'. And it certainly feels like that sometimes. It is really very important to use our foresight and knowledge of death to make the most of every moment of this vivid conscious experience we call life.
As always, a great video. I really appreciate listening to your views on life and your beautiful footage of your part of the planet.
Jon
Kurt, you're making me miss Cali with all these beach shots!!
Great footage of the surfers kurt !!!! Looks like a nice area !!!!
But the extreme social pressures in Japan are what contribute towards the high suicide rate and high levels of depression. I often hear from girls who are 25 or sometimes even younger about how they have to get married because they're "too old" and because everyone else is doing it. You even have mothers pretty much forcing their daughters to get married and the daughters sometimes don't even care who it's with as long as they're married. I find that the more happy go lucky individualistic cultures tend to be a lot happier.
I had the opportunity in May 2014 to go to California and I visited a little part of Laguna beach, thank you for taking me back there in your video. I long to go back there.
Great video Kurt, thank you.
Laura (from England!)
Beautiful scenery and interesting thoughts as always. Thanks Kurt
good video but, what are you saying?? You can't understand any talking until the very end
badass footage
I would like to learn what "would not happen in Japan" (without having to watch for 24 minutes)!
beautiful words, especially at the end there. thanks for sharing – mp in sf
