If you asked me ,

“What’s your favorite season in Japan? ”

I would say,

“Summer!”

It’s getting colder in Japan, but it’s still summer.
As you know it’s really hot and humid but you can enjoy a lot of awesome activities in Japan’s summer.

  1. This is a lovely way to start my day! The watermelon smash reminds me of hitting a piñata, and I am amazed at how clean the river is! I hope your fall is as good as your summer Aki, and your students are well-behaved and respectful.

  2. My husband has said many times that summer in Tokyo was unbearable. The heat and humidity combined must be very uncomfortable. That’s probably why we have only traveled back every other season! 😊

  3. Summer events in Japan seem really amazing. In your video, in minute 2:04, there's a picture of lots of small fish in a big tank being caught with some sort of paper scoop. I first saw this in an episode of Sailor Moon and it got me intrigued. What do you do with the fish after catching them? Do you take them home and look after them as pets or do they get killed?

  4. I hear that some travel restrictions are being lifted for foreign travellers to Japan. I hope it will be possible to visit sometime soon. Could you do a video about guesthouses and inexpensive accommodation for international travellers? Thank you for your enjoyable videos, Aki san. ❤

  5. thank you for the great video ! would love to visit Japan someday, it's very far away from me, but one can hope ^_^

  6. Thanks for sharing!!!! We are planning to visit Japan. Yay! I’m excited. Hopefully we can visit your place.🥰✌️✌️

  7. I'm reading Earthlings by Sayaka Murata and she mentions the Obon holiday on her story. I was very curious about it and the story is set in Nagano as well. Maybe one day I'll be able to visit the Mountains during the summer season. It'd be lovely!

  8. Thank you for sharing. I would never have known all the rich traditions of your culture having fun. 🎉

  9. I am looking forward to your autumn video. It is my favourite season in Japan; hiking, leaf colour changes, etc.

  10. I hate the heat and humidity in the summer in Asia but I love the matsuris. The first time I visited Japan, I arrived during the summer. I remember lying on my futon one evening enjoying my AC when I could hear drums from outside. I hadn't planned on going out but I was so curious that I ended up going anyway and followed the sound of the drums. It led me straight to the neighborhood park where they had a big Bon Odori-celebration. An elderly Japanese man spotted me hiding in the corner of the park and came over and introduced me to everything and everyone. It was my very first matsuri and it was so much fun. Everyone was so friendly.
I went to Awa Odori in Tokushima for the first time in 2019. Due to bad planning, I could only stay for a day (all hotels were sold out) but it was so much fun, and again; everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I could barely walk afterwards because of all the dancing I did with the locals, but I promised myself that I would come back for the whole week the following year.. Unfortunately, covid put an end to that plan for me. I will go back there as soon as I get the chance though. Awa Odori is easily my most favorite matsuri, it's so much fun. I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Japan. You need to book your accommodation well in advance though because the hotels sell out several months in advance. When I made the booking for 2020, they were already sold out in November of 2019 (Awa Odori is in August every year) and the closest I could find was a hostel in Takamatsu. It would have been worth the commute though, for sure. I look forward to being back there someday (hopefully next year).

  11. Amazing ! I Love japan and never was there tho 😀 Can you show us a video about the hanami Season ??

  12. Japan tradition is amazing i love it sooooo much 🥰🥰🎊🎊💓💞🎉💞💕 . Some people saying now a days many japanies changing to western culture more . If it is true , why people changing ????

  13. The other week I got curious about the exact humidity levels in Japan, thinking it must be worse than where I live.

Nope. It’s about the same. So if I’ve survived 28 summers here I’m sure I’ll survive Japan in the summer if I ever get a chance to visit.

  14. im really excited about the autumn traditions video 😅 if everything works out I will visit japan in october next year. I already started learning some japanese on duolingo
