The Shinkansen Hayabusa and Komachi services run coupled from Tokyo to Morioka. At Morioka station, the two trains separate – the Komachi heads to Akita whereas the Hayabusa goes on to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto on Hokkaido Island.

Seen here is the Komachi 21 separating from Hayabusa 19 and departing towards Akita. The Hayabusa will depart a couple of minutes later towards Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto

Hayabusa services are operated using the Shinkansen Series E5 trainsets while the Komachi services use the Shinkansen Series E6 trainsets.
