Tour of a traditional Kyo-machiya close by Kamogawa River BEFORE renovation – Part 1



A viewer who watched my videos ended up buying a Kyo-machiya very close to Kamogawa river! It took some time before the design plan & quotation was finalized but finally the renovation will start. This is part 1 where I filmed the inside of this Kyo-machiya, for part 2 the architect & contractors will be talking a bit about the design plan and how this machiya is going to be fixed.

    Thanks for posting! Kamogawa (duck river) is a scenic spot in Kyoto, popular with locals and tourists alike. Look forward to part 2. Wonder how Covid19 has affected the renovation process in Japan re availability of workers, building materials, construction schedule?

    Nice sized garden. I'm sure this will look excellent when finished. I have seen some foreign people/business buying and renovating machiya and selling to other foreigns but do you know of any Japanese business that buy renovate and sell machiya to both domestic and foreign people?

    This looks like a cool renovation where a lot of the existing structure is preserved. Personally, I like the ceiling open to the roof and think it is good for ventilation and passive cooling. What kinds of wood are naturally repellent to termites in your area?

    不知道 I would love to get in contact with you and do the same but I would like to try to get a old Japanese style house with the wrap around porch and everything in Kyoto like in there like in the old days where the koi pond and a beautiful little Japanese gardens I wish there was a way that I could get in contact with you but there I haven't seen nothing with how like with your email or anything like that but keep up the good work eventually I will get to Japan
