We left Tokyo at 5:20pm and arrived at Hokkaido’s last Shinkansen stop, Shin-Hakodate Hokuto Station at 9:44pm going through the world’s longest underwater tunnel. We will take you from Shinkansen to local train to Hakodate City! MAP: https://maps.app.goo.gl/tKLFCQBpByPJsNAa6?g_st=ic ▶︎ New ONLY in JAPAN channel with edited stories: http://youtube.com/johndaub

Have a great trip.
11:03 OMG that train's stripe suits my colors
Looking forward to your next one! We went to Hakotake twice, and last time was 2019.
Love this train ride, took it in 2018 from Tokyo. We stopped at a few places in Tohoku, just to soak in the snowy atmosphere. That's the only reason why you'll take the train. Thank you for sharing this trip with us.
The E5 Shinkansen is beautiful. Glad India will be getting this model for her first high speed line.
My timing seems to be off lately. missing livestreams
Even if it's a small overhead to take the train over flying, when you add the getting to/from the airport to the flight time + early arrival for check in and security the train is not so inconvenient.
I did this on my last visit, a day trip, from Tokyo wonderful journey and lovely destination
Had ice cream and burgers at Louis prerriot!
Lovely architecture and the cable car to a glorious view
If you have a railpass you could go all the way to sapporo basicly for free i guess
John could've helped Peter with the bags off the train and on the escalator…would've been nice
I have never been to Hokkaido, but with ever video you do from there, my desire to visit this region of Japan increases.
Is it hard to reserve a seat in this route?
Genuine question. When is it appropriate to bring luggage on a train?
I been there 2010 Hakodate,guy’s
Oooh, I'm at work so will finish watching this later. 😔😁
These streams are inspirational for when independent travel returns.
Amazing!✌️
1:44 Look at that "Kawasaki" plate
I loooove these train rides!
atmosphere and ambient sounds 😌
J & P always a +
the jokes and friendly banter 🤣
This is the first Shinkansen (and our favorite) we take from Ueno after we arrive in HND early in the morning from LAX, which then connects us to Noboribetsu in the early PM.
The long nosed green shinkansens are my favourite.
I visited Hokkaido in 2018 for 3 weeks , travel across the island by Shinkansen . This is one of my best experiences in Japan . But 3 weeks is not long enough to discover Hokkaido , I’ll comeback again soon next year when japan back to normal . From Australia with LOL .
I’ve tried this when it first opened. It was charming but I think I will take a flight from Sapporo airport, which I love.
Feels lonely here lol
Still a shinkansen is better then flying because of scenery.
For international travelers who have a JR Pass, taking the Shinkansen IS INCLUDED with your rail pass! Once you have your pass in hand, all you have to do is go to the Shinkansen office at the departing station, choose which time you'd like to depart, and they will give you a reserved seat ticket. You will be limited to the slower routes (for instance, the Tokaido line, JR Pass is only good on the Kodama and Hikari trains. The Nozomi is not included). This is a great, free feature for JR Pass users!
Also, there's the train experience. Something you can't getting when flying!
John, I took that train in Nov '16 when I was in Japan for fall colors. I travelled from Tokyo to Koriyama for the Taimatsu Akashi fire festival in Sukagawa, stayed the night, then traveled to Hakodate for a 2nd night. Then took the Shinkansen back to Tokyo after that. I know it can be colder in the winter, but Hakodate was pretty windy and chilly in mid-Nov! And Mt Hakodate was a special side trip!
I just love seeing the Shinkansen, hopefully will be taking it soon myself.
Enjoy the few days guys!!!✌🏻
