Osaka Station is one of the major stations in Osaka, but it is not served by the shinkansen,
which instead goes through Shin-Osaka Station.
Osaka Station was renovated in 2011 and is now Osaka Station City. Unlike before the renovation, the new station is extremely spacious and modern, and the trademark of the station is the large glass roof that overhands all of the railway tracks.
Along with the station itself, Osaka Station City has shopping, restaurants, and entertainment that make it a lot more than just trains.

The Kita (North) district, also known as Umeda is one of Osaka’s two main city centers. It is located around the large station complex that comprises Osaka and Umeda Stations.
Kita’s counterpart is Minami (South) around Namba Station. Besides being Osaka’s busiest
transportation hub and a bustling business district, Kita also offers an abundance of shopping, dining, lodging and entertainment, including several department stores and an expansive network of underground shopping malls.
The Umeda district has been undergoing a major facelift over the past years, and more improvements are scheduled to happen.
