It’s the final line! Wait… it’s the final two lines!
First we follow the Shihoro Line, home to a collection of registered Hokkaido cultural artifacts. From there we finish off the trip by trading our bicycles for a train ticket and heading to the coast to see the very first train line on the island.

  1. Oh! I guess that makes sense. I was trying to figure it out, but I figured it was my eyes playing a trick on me.

  5. mugged/robbed? in japan? does that even happen in japan? just wondering i've never been there before

  6. I watched all 4 episodes and not only is the edits very professionally done. The video taking, the trip planning, the ride and research that went into it was very very well executed. Also the presentation, the personal touch just kept me wanting to watch some more. Congratulations on a great job. One request is that if you don't mind sharing the riding route you took. Thanks!

  7. Oh, are you from Shihoro? I'm happy you watched this, as I certainly enjoyed going there.

  8. Many, many thanks!

I no longer remember the exact route we took, but the biking portion went something like this:
    goo.gl/maps/l2kbj

Add on Rishi and Rebun islands in the northwest for the full effect.

  9. Very coincidentally, I just got home to Asahikawa from Obihiro.
On the way, I spotted a couple of abandoned bridges, and even one that had fallen apart.

  10. hello from andalucia (Spain).(the doors),jim morrison wrote a song for my land(spanish caravan).like your video.sorry I not writing very well

  11. wooooow awesome!!! I enjoy your trip very much!!! Specially the neko bus part 😀 !!! your video is excellent, the maps, the account, everything! U live in japan?? becouse your japanese is pretty good, 上手 ね!! I'm studying japanese since 2 years, and in march I'm starting my 3 year, difficult but I really enjoy the nihongo! Again, congratulations to you people, from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

  12. Thank you for the kind words! Beth and I used to live in Japan, but we left last year. And good luck with your Japanese!

  13. Love your cycling videos, kind of a bicycling adventure myself. Just wondering what kind of Camera lens did you use on your panasonic. Greetings from Netherlands

  14. I used the Panasonic Lumix G 20 mm f/1.7, Panasonic Lumix G 14-140mm f/4.0-5.8 (the stock lens), and an old Canon FD 50mm f/1.8 (I think it was the 1.8, I don't remember exactly).

And nice to see this made it to the Netherlands. I hope to be there myself in a few months (my wife and I are currently in Turkey and are slowly heading west).

  15. I just finished watching this series, and I just want to say, spectacular. Going on a trip like this is awesome enough, but putting together a series like this is amazing. The camera work and editing are spectacular. You made an entire, excellent quality documentary with only one other person. It was a pleasure to watch in so many ways, and I'm not even remotely a train otaku.

  16. I really loved watching this. Thank you so much! I used to live in Korea for two years, but am hoping to do a similar trip to yours (not so train focused though!) later this year or early next year. Do you guys miss Japan? There's something magical about Asia isn't there.

  17. We plan to visit Japan every once in awhile when the opportunity presents itself, so yes, sometimes we do miss it 🙂

  18. I am thinking about cycling in japan non-stop for like 2 months, not having a goal stop or anything. Just cycling and camping. I know some basic Japanese so I wouldn't be totally lost. Do you have any tip or locations I should visit?

  19. I just wanted to pop in and say this was an amazing series to watch. I'm moving to Japan in October, and have a passion for cycling. I really wanted to do something along these lines and began searching for YT videos to watch while doing a research paper.

You did an excellent job capturing and editing this adventure, and I wanted to thank you for sharing it with the world.

  24. Yeah, um, I've never stayed out too late chasing railbeds and have to come back in the dark. But that's why you have a headlamp and headlight.

  25. "Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey". It's the right-hand rule. Your fingers curve around the bolt and when you spin the bolt in the direction your fingers are pointing, the bold will go into the nut in that direction.

  26. Thank you for creating this series. I hope one day you will create another series of Japan's Abandoned Rail systems.

  27. Wow!I'm Japanese live in Kanagawa near Tokyo.I'm interested in Hokkaidou's abandoned rail. I had gone to bikou, kouhin north/south and syokotsu-line in Hokkaido last year. What a wonderful movie!!Great!!
